Topic: Activation slot trouble/limitations?

So, let's say I use all 3 of my activation slots. Fine, no issue. Now I want to temporarily use a different machine for one of the slots, e.g. because it needs to be repaired. But if I try to deactivate it it says I will not be able to use that hardware again, ever?! WTF?!

I get it, I can only use it on 3 machines at any given time. That's fine with me, but why can't I move one machine to different hardware, and then eventually back to the same? That seems ridiculous. Or am I missing something? When I bought the license a year ago I was under the assumption that I can manage the 3 slots as I please...

Re: Activation slot trouble/limitations?

No, don't deactivate any of your slots. As I understand it, if you create a new activation it will just knock out the oldest of your existing slots, but you can reactivate it later if you need to. I think that's how it works, but if you have any concerns it's best to contact Modartt support for clarification.

Re: Activation slot trouble/limitations?

I think dazric is correct, but I have not tried this myself either.

Where do I find a list of all posts I upvoted? :(

I totally get your frustration with the activation slot limitations. It can be a bummer when you need to switch machines temporarily, but then you're stuck with that hardware forever. It does seem a bit ridiculous.

It's not. It's made to avoid abuse (not saying what kind here to not give people ideas...)
If it's an one-off thing, contacting support has always accommodated everything reasonable that has been asked.

Plus, the typical use case should work as dazric explained (but again I have not needed and did not try)

Oh, man. I've been there too

Unfortunately not, I have tried activate PT on 4th device and given info:

"You are currently using 3 of 3 activation slots.
You must free an activation slot before activating this computer.
You can do it in user area on our website."

Have you asked support about it? If so, what did they say?

I’ve asked (today) and hope have answer soon. I have installed PT on MacBook Air to test GA demo presets, but on trial PT it does not work, so I need to activate PT on Mac (but I have 3 slots used yet).

But in any case, those are just presets, I don't understand what what would be the difference in testing presets on differentes PCs...

No difference, but Grand Artist presets work only on MacOS (and my 3 slots are on Windows PC’s.)
