Topic: Thank you Modartt!

While listening to some of the demos this weekend (something I do from time to time) I saw that Modartt  added a new preset in the celesta, within the free KiVir instruments, that combines the celesta and the old K1 piano. This was something I tried to figure out how to do last year, because I loved the customized version used for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." At that time, several people gave me pointers on how to do it, but it was beyond my skill set. Now Modartt did it, unasked. I am just amazed at this level of responsiveness.

Re: Thank you Modartt!

That's weird, I can't see the new celesta + K1 preset or find any mention of it on the KiVIR demo page. Is this in version 8.1.0?

Re: Thank you Modartt!

As far as I can see, I think there was simply a mix-up between KiVIR and the Legacy Instruments where the K1 is still available. The "plus Grand K1" demo is not an available preset for either the Celesta or K1 (I checked) it is simply a name for the demo (probably recorded by J. Felice) combining the two

That makes sense. I guess it was too good to be true! I didn't look on the actual instrument, just at the demo. Usually, demos just say "customized." I didn't think it through carefully. Anyway, it gave me a few moments of pure happiness, which is never a bad thing in a troubled world. And I do love Modartt.

Re: Thank you Modartt!

Ah well, no harm done! Anyway, the Pianoteq celesta is gorgeous (I used it in my competition entry last year) and it would be great to hear more of it on the forum.

It's pretty easy to approximate the demo with a layer. Here is an example using a sequenced MIDI file from the web and a layer preset combining the Celesta and the legacy K1:

Re: Thank you Modartt!

Talking about Celesta. Here is my demo, playing Celesta. Nice sound.

Celesta as an effect...

Here it is in context with other instruments (in a DAW)...

I must admit - it's not an instrument that I've thought of playing, but there are many composers who have Saint Saens' Aquarium comes to mind as it's one of my favourite pieces...

Re: Thank you Modartt!

Wow, thanks DEZ - love it!!!
This got me thinking about some of my favourite 'celesta moments': apart from the Aquarium, there's Mercury (Holst's Planets) and several from Shostakovich, who used it very simply, but to great effect (end of 4th sym, end of 1st movt of 5th sym, 15th sym ending). And then there's Bartok's Music For Strings, Percussion and Celesta - long time since I've heard that one, will have to revisit it.

He uses it as an effect effectively - LOL!

Thanks for your thanks, here's a quite short, child-like composition featuring the instrument of the week - Celesta.

And accompanied with Synth, Drums and Bass...
