Topic: How to change the midi player's notes channel.

If I change the global midi mapping Notes Channel to anything other than "any channel" or "1",  the midi player stops sounding because it is transmitting on channel 1.  How can I change the midi player notes channel to match my new global notes channel number?

Re: How to change the midi player's notes channel.

You need to match the MIDI channel in your controller with the MIDI channel on Pianoteq. MIDI has 16 parallel channels (I believe).

Thanks but my controller and Pianoteq are both configured for channel 5 and communicating properly, but Pianoteq's MIDI file player is still configured for channel 1 and as a result does not trigger any notes.

Re: How to change the midi player's notes channel.

In my version (7.5.2) the playback and the actual playing use the same setting (options -> midi -> left bottom corner).
I have run some tests and Pianoteq saved the same channel I used on my controller. And then only played back the channel chosen in options, so for e.g. if I play in channel 3, PT records on channel 3, and I must select channel 3 (or 'any') to playback.
Other option is to edit the midi file in order to set the proper channel. May be you want to edit your files with a MIDI editor? If you don't want to install one you have online options like this one: https://signal.vercel.app/edit

Pianoteq's MIDI recorder/player will record the MIDI channel number with the MIDI note-on, note-off and other events. So if your controller is configured to transmit on MIDI channel 5, the Pianoteq MIDI recorder will record and play back the information it recorded, on MIDI channel 5.

If you set Pianoteq's Options-->MIDI-->Notes Channel to "Any," Pianoteq will respond to and produce audio for MIDI events (played live or recorded into a .mid file) regardless of MIDI channel, or rather, on any MIDI channel.

However, if these comments seem irrelevant, it may not be quite clear exactly what you are trying to achieve, and why.

When you've your own MIDI file loaded, if you control click onto the window of the MIDI file player you're able to select whatever MIDI track you intend to play in the MIDI file itself.

(After you make a selection on the loaded MIDI file, any track that can play has a checkmark appearing under MIDI Tracks within the file player pop-up of the software.)

Pianoteq 8 Studio Bundle, Pearl malletSTATION EM1, Roland (DRUM SOUND MODULE TD-30, HandSonic 10, AX-1), Akai EWI USB, Yamaha DIGITAL PIANO P-95, M-Audio STUDIOPHILE BX5, Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP.

Re: How to change the midi player's notes channel.

Thank you all for your responses.  I have been taking piano lessons that provide some material as midi files and have become used to practicing with them using the Pianoteq midi player.  In the mean time I've been reviving my old hardware synths since my new controller can effectively handle 8 midi zones.  When Pianoteq is configured for "any" channel, it is not happy seeing all those other channels.

From what I am hearing the solution is to either get an editor or a dedicated midi file player.  Both of which are great ideas.  Thanks again.
