Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

My entry this year, ”A multifaceted musical experience”.
This contest is about music with Pianoteq (and video), so I want to tell you just a little about my thinking when creating this music piece. The importance of musical experience in our life. It may be of interest to read it first, before listening.

Because this is the eight contest for me, (are there others in the competition for the eighth time?) I have to acknowledge, that this contest demands a multifaceted approach. So the name of my piece is ”A multifaceted musical experience”. I got inspired by listening to many many pieces by many, many different composers. I found out that there are a range of multi-faceted options which can help me I had to add many different kinds of elements to this multi-faceted music piece. For example, some unexpected ”detours” here and there…But I’m not sure that it will offer me a solution to the problem how to end up among the top three, because that problem is - multifaceted
You know, music is a multifaceted phenomenon, and the contest-judges have different reception and interpretation reactions towards music. So I had to make a piece that is like the diamonds multifaceted surface. I can only hope that my musical personality is enough multifaceted, for this years contest.
Notice, that the word multifaceted came up almost all the time in Google (I’m using google translate). Hope you don’t mind.

And, ”to play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable.”(Beethoven), so I played with passion, and if you think I’m playing wrong some places, it is not the note I play, that’s the wrong note – it’s the note I play afterwards that makes it right or wrong I hope I can make some people enjoying listening to my multifaceted piece, if so, that’s nice.

And good luck to all in the competition!

Beethoven Piano Sonata No.23 in F minor (Op.57) "Appassionata"

This year I have created a midi file of "Sonata Appassionata" of Beethoven while listening to the sounds of slightly modified Ant.Petrof Warm preset instrument.
The video of music contains all movements of sonata, so I am sorry if you think the performing time is too long for the contest entry; it takes about 27 minutes time, but in my opinion I think all three movements of piano sonata make one piece of music and I'd rather not want to play separately.

The software which I have used are:SONAR 2 XL for sequencing midi file
SONAR 5 Producer Edition for performing midi with Pianoteq VST plug-in
                                                          Bandicam for capturing screen video
VEGAS Pro 16 for editing video
                                                          Windows10 2004 as Operating System

I thank all of you for listening and watching my video and I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you everyone so far!
Perhaps I should just add that we expect entries to be in the form of a video, and not just a single image. Just to clarify.

Ok !

So, here is the same piece (Plénitude), but with the form of a video :

Here is a piano solo. I hope it is clear to the software I used. (the screen is to the left side)
I used pianoteq 6, and the name of the song is 'Be Thou my vision'.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

I thought I'd enter again this year, if only to just be sharing some music. Going from a full-time performing musician to a stay-at-home artist has been, well, an interesting combination of sad, wonderful, weird and challenging.

This video is a few minutes of jazz improvisation, attempting to employ full range of the instrument. A few slips here and there. :-)  I wanted to make use of some other sounds from within Mainstage, so I hope the great sound of Pianoteq 6 still shines through. Hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to listening to all the other submissions!

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Hi! I have been lurking here for some time, but this contest finally made me create an account. I have been thinking about using Pianoteq to visualize my videos for some time now, great chance to try it out.

Usually I use it mostly for playing, it just sounds and feels so good. I'm just playing the piano for 1 year and 8 months, so be gentle please . (But I'm pretty pleased with the result, though it took me some time to get it the way I wanted.)

I used the C.Bechstein (Recording 1) to render the audio. I think the C.Bechstein gives the treble notes are really nice "ring", like a little bell sounding. Especially for this piece it sounds great as it makes the melody stand out.

Hello,

https://youtu.be/9A-7dAFPmJo

The Pianoteq Video Contest is a great offer. This is my first participation in this contest. In my video I recorded some of my pieces with different Pianoteq instruments. The inserted interludes are also recorded with the bells from Pianoteq. I added some photos from my hometown Limburg an der Lahn and some of my graphics to the interludes. I hope you enjoy this video.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Hi everyone,

My first time contribution ever to a video contest. Recording equipment: two  cameras (one pointing to the piano, the other one to the laptop with pianoteq - so to speak the b-roll), both cameras on tripods, recording simultaneously in 1080p25fps and equipped with minolta md vintage lenses (manual focus). Sound recorded using a tascam DR07. Pianoteq running on toshiba laptop w/ linux mint. Audio output using small tascam speakers.
Video then cut/created with kdenlive on an opensuse linux desktop PC: All tracks including pianoteq MP3-export first loaded into kdenlive and moved until synchronous. Added still picture and text as title image. Muted all camera recorded sounds and used dr07 recording instead for speach and beginning of music parts. For intro and main performance I did a crossfade to the track containing the MP3-export from pianoteq. So the creaking of the piano chair gradually vanishes and is replaced by the clear pianoteq sound. My equipment may seem expensive, but in fact the cameras, lenses, computers and the audio recorder are second hand bought.

The music: I play this arrangement of the Saint Louis Blues for more than 30 yrs, but I am just a hobbyist playing at home, so up to now there has been no recording around :-) . I did overall three takes and used the first take for the entire movie (cutting out a little bit of the explanation).

Enjoy!

It is a pleasure to participate in this 2020 Pianoteq video contest.  My name is André Barbosa, and I am a Brazilian pianist.  I used the Pianoteq 6 stage, Steinway D Prelude, to interpret the piece Paulistana no.1 by the Brazilian composer Cláudio Santoro.  My instrument is a Casio digital piano, model Privia Px150.

Just a short question: Can I use images/logos from the www.modartt.com website inside my video? Or should I better make my own screenshots to embed there?

Does any spoken or written content inside the video has to be in English?

This piece is called "Gauss Piano" since all the notes played by Pianoteq are driven by two random normal (i.e. Gaussian) white noise sources. Four knobs on a Novation controller are used to vary both the spreads and the center positions of the Gaussians, one that controls the note value and one that controls velocity, in order to obtain a form of controlled randomness. The note values go through a chord quantizer before going to Pianoteq. The piece is performed -- and the Pianoteq VST3 is hosted by -- VCV Rack, a virtual modular synthesizer.

I first performed the piano part of the original piece (soprano and piano) last century, then learned the transcription in 2008.  I decided to bring it out again for this year's contest because it's a great piece for showcasing the rich, singing tones that Pianoteq does so well.  And also because I found some new software that was just perfect for making the animation :-)

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

This sprightly Baroque piece was performed on a Yamaha Disklavier as MIDI keyboard and rendered by Pianoteq 6 with the YC5 Solo Recording instrument.  The three different camera angles were captured with an iPhone, iPad and digital camera and then integrated using iMovie.  I find that the Pianoteq sound is better than what can be obtained with microphones and acoustic recording.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

In this video I used Pianoteq 6 with the Blüthner model one piano at 432hz. I felt 432hz warmer than 440hz. Since the orchestra has an introduction I decided to show the area and house where Grieg lived in Norway. We can see the Grieg's gardens, house and sight of the fjord.

I change the tempo mapping of the original record from MMO to match the great pianist György Cziffra performance. I really love the way he plays this concerto.

        I hope you enjoy.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Hi all:

I am submitting what I term an "immersive video" in which I have attempted to make both the video and audio portions "immersive". The video portion employs animation for immersion, and the audio portion employs binaural processing of a rather different sort using Logic Pro X. Given the binaural processing, it is probably best to use headphones. The music is Rachmaninoff's Second Sonata, 3rd movement (original version). The list of software I used is provided in the second set of information in the video. I used one of my favorite presets, Steingraeber Warm, and this is one of my favorite pieces of music.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

My entry for the 2020 competition
https://youtu.be/XPkvTyKsjgA

It's a bit of an experiment and, for the reasons below, a bit of a failure too - but hey, that's why we experiment!

I wanted to create something using 3 different pianos - a real grand, and the two main types of electric piano, Rhodes and Wurly. I was looking for a richness of sound that perhaps couldn't be achieved by any one. In reality the sounds seem to merge into one and whereas one could tell any single piano played on its own, the three together are less distinct.

The piece was recorded using Ableton Live and I made the video with Magic Music Visuals.

The actual composition was based around the Kenny Barron chord voicing though not as obvious as with another (better) composition - see here https://soundcloud.com/user-909351095/k...ion-course (this is not the competition entry).

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Hello,

I can see there are already a lot of really great submission. I’m not quite sure i should post mine now, I’m clearly not at the same level ^^’

This is my first submission ever, also my first YouTube video (and music recording) ever. I’m self taught, when i was a teenage, and after a very very long while, i started recently to play again. Obviously this is far from being perfect, but hopefully some of you will still enjoy it.

So here is my submission for the 2020 Pianoteq video contest.

The famous Chopin op.28 nº4 prelude :-)

The hybrid piano is a Yamaha N1 and the sound is rendered using Pianoteq v6 VST with the Steinway D module.
To connect the piano to my laptop and record the midi, I’m using a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 audio interface.

For live playing, although the Yamaha N1 already has some awesome speakers, I also use my Adam T7v monitor speakers on top of the Yamaha’s internal speakers, this really renders a fuller sound during live playing. I find this setup quite enjoyable.

As you can see i had to adjust the velocity curve. Unfortunately for this piano, although it has a really great mechanic response, the midi is weird and you can’t hit velocities above 80-90 even hammering the keys. I also have troubles (probably because I’m not properly trained?) hitting low velocities consistently, hence the curve i used which nicely fits pianissimo pieces imho.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Dear all,
this is my entry for “Pianoteq Video Contest 2020” and this is my first time participating since I discovered Pianoteq only few months ago thanks to a friend. I was searching for the perfect VST to use in my videos and I was struggling finding the right one that could please my ears (and also did not cost a fortune!) until a friend told me about Pianoteq. The moment I listened to the examples in the website and other recordings made with Pianoteq I immediately knew that I had finally found what I was looking for.

For the contest I’m submitting the whole set of the three Gymnopédies of Erik Satie in a popular video format with visual effects that I find particularly satisfying to the eye. Each Gymnopédie has its own flavor, but it is clear that they are part of whole idea (and so this is why I'm submitting them in a single video).
They are nostalgic, relaxing, sad, enigmatic, calm and they can make you feel something you don’t know you could feel.

I recorded the Gymnopédies with Pianoteq 6 Stage, using the Steingraeber and Söhne Warm preset which is one of my favorite for the richness and deepness of its tone (the basses are truly vibrant also when played softly, as you can hear in the video). I changed the reverb to “Medium Hall” and I also decided to play at 432 Hz since this tuning can give a different vibe to this kind of relaxing music and Pianoteq gives the possibility to immediately do that (while in real life is much more difficult to get a piano at 432 Hz). In the outro of the video I displayed Pianoteq references. Also, the outro music (an excerpt from “The Great Gate of Kiev” from “Pictures at an Exhibition” of Mussorgsky) is recorded with the Steingraeber Warm at 432 Hz.

Hope you’ll enjoy!

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Some of you may recall a popular commercial which ran during the 70s.  That of a consumer tape brand, one which showed a glass shattered from merely its cassette recoding of the famous jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald.  Who had only seconds earlier in the commercial did shatter a similar glass, live to everyone who saw it.  What the commercial of the tape brand seemed to demonstrate by the cassette is that a person viewing was unable fully to tell whether he indeed was witnessing the merited voice of the jazz singer Ella (who did with allegedly her mere voice shatter the goblet) or only in fact the brand of tape (that did so also).

MODARTT to me is a lot like the tape manufacturer!

Today I’m going to alleged whenever you’ve modeled piano used along with modeled analog hardware, you’d become indeed hard pressed to tell of any observable difference, that is, if you’d just listened to either an acoustic piano recording or a recording of PIANOTEQ.

And with that, Is It Live or PIANOTEQ? this entry into the Pianoteq Video Contest 2020 has been indeed nothing short of a lot of fun to me to create.

Firstly, I wanted to build a Grotrian piano preset around a MIDI XP file on a performance of Feng Bian from China, because whenever I loaded the folder of Feng’s MIDI XPs from the Piano-e-Competition that was held in 2018 I always had gravitated to just one of the many Grotrian presets.  I really felt he performed some of Robert Schuman’s Fantasie in C Major (Fantasy Opus 17: II) at the Piano-e-Competition very indicative of ideas of a triumphant march.

To my surprise I discovered a few connections involving one Theodore Steinweg, Friedrich Grotrian, and Clara Schumann who ten years after the composer died did start to perform Fantasie in her concerts as it was from her husband whom she remembered.  Heinrich Steinweg, Theodore Steinweg’s father began to build pianos in Seesen, about 1835 when the composer wrote Fantasie in 1836.  MODARTT shows the following:

Back in 1835, Heinrich Steinweg built his first pianos in Seesen, Germany. When immigrating to USA in 1850, he gave his piano factory to his son Theodore Steinweg, who partnered in 1856 with another piano maker, Friedrich Grotrian. By working closely with prominent pianists such as Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt and Anton Rubinstein, Grotrian managed to produce pianos that pianists loved and used intensively. Today, the basis of the Grotrian tradition remains unchanged: a unique tone and love for music. The grand pianos of Grotrian are still hand made in Germany, and the production of each instrument takes eight months.

So, I’m saying about the preset I used and indeed any other preset built from Grotrian Concert Royal in PIANOTEQ, they are probably very appropriate to anybody wanting to perform a solo piano piece from the composer, in a historical context.

https://forum.modartt.com/file/bux6snwh
https://forum.modartt.com/download.php?id=4016

Now video production is a new endeavor to me.  (Especially when it involves a soundtrack, I have to get the music to match somehow the scenes in a video.)

While doing the video Is It Live or PIANOTEQ? I became suddenly aware of the apparent advantage real-life audio engineers must have, undeniably, if often they get to see a lot of the musicians, equipment, and studio surroundings when the musicians record and when only they as the studio engineers themselves track their sessions.  They get to see at first hand even the various expressions the performing musicians may make as artists are sometimes joyful er very gleeful during sessions.  From which they, the engineers, will draw their inspirations.  A lot they’ve remembered maybe as they sit down to a final mix.  One to their advantage they likely happily visualize  —with the mind’s eye.

My having a number of piano video clips was an asset to me to envision the piano instrument Feng may have played (that is) one likely similar to that depicted by the clips I got, and imagine the sound coming from such a vivid depiction!

To me it meant I had to base a lot on my vivid imagination to subsequently match: equalization, compression, and reverb to otherwise silent video.

Well, I just knew I was mainly after a vintage sound before I even began any video composing.  So, I reached firstly to one of my plugin preamps.  Additionally, my final equalizer and compressor (following some modern surgical like tools previously applied) are emulations of vintage hardware.

Like PIANOTEQ pianos, which are also modeled.  What a likely combination of modeled stuff I use!

For my second participation here is the Tango in D Op 165 n ° 2 from the España suite, by Isaac Albéniz. Composed for the piano in 1893, I play it on a Pianoforte (Schöffstoss - KIViR Project) the one that seemed to me to come closest to the sound of the guitar.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2020 - ENTRIES

Hello to all dear fellow musicians and Pianoteq 6 users, here is my entry for the Pianoteq 6 contest 2020: "Salsa Contagiosa". I wrote this piece two years ago after a stay in Cuba. Fascinated by the cordiality of the simple (and not always wealthy) people with whom I came into contact there, and inspired in particular by the lively musical culture of Cuba and of course by the old-timers, which you probably don't see in such numbers on the streets of the world anymore, I had to sit down at the piano and write this piece immediately after my return home. The music of Cuba - it was simply contagious - "contagiosa".

For the competition video, I finally combined this piece with my own video material about vintage cars from Cuba to underline the attitude towards life that the music expresses, also with pictures.

Good Luck to all!

Looks so cool! How do you do the visual effects?
