Hell Mr. Cmusicpr2:
I downloaded your midi file and launched it into Digital Performer 9 DAW using Pianoteq's Steinway D Prelude stock preset. Here is what I found:
The midi file you attempted to create had been step-entered and then modified to look as though it was played live. Such was not the case: Why? The right hand melody was wayyyy too loud with respect to the left hand, and there were several instances where you forgot to change the note-on velocities, as they were all the same in certain areas.
In addition, it looks to me as though you tried to fool your audience into thinking it was played live (when in fact it was step entered) by attempting to change the durations of whole sections such that they did not look quantized.
I went ahead and modified the midi file you submitted; but rather than publishing your work for you here, I suggest that you modify all of the note velocities by 50%. In this manner, the right hand will not sound nearly as loud and out of place with respect to the left hand. In addition, I can see where you precisely entered the sustain pedal (Midi Controller #64) at rather precise on (127) and off (0) locations.
So I suggest you take this midi file, highlight all of the note-on velocities and change them to 30% to 50% of their edited values, and the piano will sound much nicer.
In addition, where ever the theme repeats, you may wish to step enter some Midi Controller #67 (soft pedal) which will help give the impression of some musicianship.
Sorry, ahead of time, for sounding harsh, but I can smell a midi-rat from miles away, especially when one tries to modify the performance, and then complain that Pianoteq sounds metallic with it.
Cheers,
Joe
