Topic: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

When I choose ASIO4ALL (latest version) as my device, Pianoteq 5 crashes with message that it has stopped working and needs to shut down.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled ASIO4ALL and Pianoteq.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

Larry

Try Windows Audio?

What is your soundcard?

Hard work and guts!

Re: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

Couple of months ago I was curious and installed A4A...my audio setup got some strange errors that I never understood.  I had to reinstall everything.  Better buy a decent soundcard.

Re: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

I have a Sound Blaster ZBX sound card. It's a $250 PCI card for a desktop. Asio4All was the best ASIO driver for that card even though the included driver is pretty good too.

Ever since I installed Pianoteq 5, I've had strange issues. I can't get Ivory II to make sound any more after I accidentally had both open at the same time.

When I first installed Pianoteq 5, I found it pretty CPU intensive. Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling the sound card driver and Ivory II, even at the very lowest latency setting of 2ms, there is very little CPU activity but I still detect a bit of latency (which I shouldn't), and at 5ms, the latency is somewhat noticeable.

When I use the WMD setting at 5ms, the latency is off the charts. Something is wrong.

Tomorrow, I'll uninstall everything and delete all registry entries. Then I'll start over to see if I can fix this.

Re: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

SoundBlaster isn't a proper audio card for serious audio work anymore... Just games and watching movies and that's about it...

Better get a proper external audio interface, something like Focusrite or Presonus or TC Electronic etc. Presonus has very good low latency drivers.

BTW, when the driver shows latency of 2 ms, that's not the whole round-trip latency. See:

Re: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

I once had a 5.1 soundcard that worked way worse than a stereo omboard soundcard, and no adjust, sampler number, nothng could make it wok right.

I believe we should make a list of soundcards that are purê crap and can't work with pianoteq.

Re: ASIO4ALL makes Pianoteq crash

First of all, ASIO4ALL problem solved. I installed version 2.10, not the new beta version, and everything is stable with another audio device.

As for my Sound Blaster ZXR, it is acting up with both Pianoteq and Ivory - problem started when I accidentally had both open at the same time. The SB ZXR is a very expensive PCI sound card, and even though it's not a pro card, it has fantastic reviews at pro-audio sites.

I have a Behringer Xenyx Q502USB mixer that has ASIO drivers. It is pretty stable at 2.7ms of latency, but I hear extra latency, perhaps output latency. However, with ASIO4ALL, the 2.7ms of latency is hardly noticeable and I hear no pops or clicks.

Thanks for help!
