Topic: How many of you have a half-damper pedal?

Just curious, as to how many people here use a half-damper pedal, as opposed to a simple on-off switch pedal.

Ok me first: just got my Roland DP-10. Works great, except the pressure is a little "light". I might add a spring or something to make the touch more sturdy.

I think have a DP-10, and also one simpler that's only ON/OF

My DP-10 unfortunately do not have this smart rubber band to firm the foot safely.

My DP-10 it's more like in this image:

But the simpler one (on/of) have that band.

Re: How many of you have a half-damper pedal?

My Korg sp250 has a pedal with three intermediate steps between 1 and 128. I also use a gpp-3  by cme which has three pedals, the right one being continuous. But they don't make those anymore.

Re: How many of you have a half-damper pedal?

My Roland KR7 has continuous damper pedal values from zero to 127, not just half pedal, but the full 128 values.

I have recorded many midi files and have edited them in my midi editor and can see the values.

Having said that, I've DL'd midi files and have seen pedal values of zero, 64, and 127; some just have zero and 127, some all three (0, 64, 127), but many have the full range.

On a recording I did when playing St. Louis Blues, the first Pedal Control values are:  0, 5, 36, 66, 101, 125, and 127.  I was applying the damper pedal and from time = 1:01:096 until time = 2:01:022 I had gone from no pedal to full damper pedal down.

I also have a few midi files from other beta testers, and they all seem to have the full range of Pedal Control values.  Listz's HR2 by the Evil Dragon (a contributor here) has the full range of values.

Most higher end digital pianos can detect and record the full range.

Nice... what midi editor are you using? i'd like a program that can edit a midi file just like if it was a .wav file, ie delete portions of it and close the gap, etc etc.

/* edit */

beto: do you know what that allen-key socket is for on the dp-10? i don't have an allen key that fits!! I presume it's for the tightness of the pedal, but have you tried it out?

I've been using this for about 12  years.  I don't have the latest - still using Version 12.

I doubt you'll find anything so powerful at such a low cost, and the forum support is second to none.

The "Event List" is the screen that permits very detailed editing of a midi file and which shows all the midi controls - this is where I see the multiple Pedal Controls from my own midis and those of others.

I've literally taken a piece that was played in "complete rubato" and quantized it into strict time.  I've also used it to score other parts note by note (guitar, electronic piano sounds, etc). to add to my bare piano midi.  Adding drums is very simple.

In truth, what I really like is the ability to correct mistakes in my playing.  If a note is too loud or soft, or the timing is wrong, or even if I need an extra note (or more), it's a simple matter.  I've also corrected pedaling that I screwed up on.

If you use midi, and you're not a perfect player, this program might be the answer.

Deleting portions or closing a gap is very simple to do with Powertracks.

PS - last night's game was disappointing for me - and you may know which one I'm referring to.

I use a modified KAWAI triple pedal housing rigged up with PNOscan sensors and connected to PNOscan's TUSB unit. It basically operates as a USB Triple Pedal (all optionally continuous).
