Topic: Pianoteq 9 for iOS: Cannot see "File" menu

I am a newbie here. Recently purchase Pianoteq 9, Standard edition which runs on my latest M4 based iPad Pro. I am trying to record a MIDI file and then export it to some kind of audio file. Based on the user manual that can be done if I go to the "File" menu. However, I do not see that menu (same goes for "Edit" menu etc.).

Can you please help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pianoteq 9 for iOS: Cannot see "File" menu

It seems to me that the thing about the menus is something related to the computer versions, and the manual doesn’t seem to clarify that. But I’m looking at the app on my iPad and iPhone right now, and indeed there are no menus — just as in any mobile app, of course.

I suggest you use Garageband (free in iPad Pro) when recording, there you can export to wave or mp.3 for example. I have M4 Mac mini using Garageband but it's the same for iPad Pro. If not, you can download it for free. Is often preinstalled on newer models. It's a free music creation app by Apple that can also be downloaded from the App Store if it's not already on your device.

Good luck!

Best wishes,

Stig

On IOS click in the black area above "note-edit morph layer".

For me, Standalone is much simpler and faster than using GarageBand. What's more, it automatically records everything you play. I haven't found any differences between the iOS and Windows versions of Standalone.

I have full menu options on both of my iPads (current M3 Air 13” and a 4 year old 11” Air both running OS 26.1) while running both v9 and v8, with no issues.
The menu options are only available on ipadOS 26.x, nothing earlier. The “Menu” options are hidden until you pull down from the top of screen.
Hope that help's, Jeff

EDITED…… I just realized, that the OP was referring to a Pianoteq “File” menu, and not the new ipadOS 26 feature. I think I do remember seeing the PT ‘Files’ menu when trying in Linux briefly.

Hmmm... I'm going to have to go look at that. I didn't not think full functionality was possible on iOS. Would be a nice surprise...

My current iPad OS is 18.6.2. (?) I'm not finding a 26.x anywhere. (??) I didn't think I was that far out of date as the thing is only a couple of months old.

Also, I checked Pianoteq 8 (I haven't updated it to 9 yet, I need to) and there is no File menu that appears when I pull down from the top. I wish there were. I had a gig this evening and would love to download the midi files. If they're in here, I sure can't find 'em.

You can update to the latest iPadOS.  I believe it's at the bottom of the update page.  It's not selected by default in case there are app compatibility issues--you may want to check any apps you have to see if they're fully compatible with the 26.x update.

Re: Pianoteq 9 for iOS: Cannot see "File" menu

Hello, the options to manage MIDI files on the iOS version of Pianoteq (8 or 9) can be accessed by dragging from the top of the screen to open the integrated MIDI player, and then tapping the name of the currently loaded MIDI file (usually "Preset demo"). This opens a pop-up menu which contains the same MIDI-related options as the desktop version's File menu.

Let me know if that is what you are looking for.

YES!!!  That is exactly what I was looking for, and...  WOW!!! I had no idea that menu was there. It seems a bit fussy about exactly where one is dragging from, it's not just "the top of the screen".

THANK YOU!!!!  Sincerely, thank you! I played a gig last evening that I had hoped to have some video from to post on my webpage but the recording from the phone was really quite bad. I was playing Pianoteq and now, there is actually the potential to pull the midi file from the iPad and recreate it without that overwhelming background noise!

BTW, I'm going to have to tell Chat GPT that this funciton IS available. It was totally convinced that this option is not available on iOS so quit looking for it. Guess Chat GPT doesn't know everything, does it? LOL!
