Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2021 - INSTRUCTIONS

The links to the complete results for all the past contests seem to be broken... most of them go to eg. https://www.pianoteq.com/contest?year=2018 , while the 2020 one goes to https://forum.modartt.com/video_contest , but none of them actually take you to a page with all the entries and the voting. Can that be fixed?

Hi! I have three questions.
1.It's called Video Contest. Is the focus more on video? I watched some videos from your last contests and am a little confused, because most videos were pretty simple like screenrecordings only. I would prefer the focus also being on music, or even mainly, even though nowadays with plugins and youtube it has become more a visual thing!?

2. Is every music genre accepted and also recordings with a band?

3. Does public voting mean you have a big advantage when you are a social media guy with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and who knows what account with followers, subscribers and "friends" ? I like making music and performing and I like Pianoteq a lot and would have some free time in November, but I do not like social media very much truly speaking and if social media played an important role, well, then your contest might not be for me.

Hi Fryderyk,

1. This is up to everyone. If you like an entry, for whatever reason, vote on it.

2. Yes, we welcome all kinds of music and constellations, as long as Pianoteq 7 is being featured.

3. It is of course very difficult to achieve a perfectly fair voting. The contest is there to have some fun and is a good way to attract some attention. To participate is the most important in my opinion. Every entry counts and all participants get something in return. There is also a jury that picks the top 10 entries. Their votes are counted with the same weight as the public votes (50/50).

Hoping to see you participate, Fryderyk!

Thanks a lot for your nice reply

One last question: Is it allowed to perform and submit a piece of some famous musician (for example Elton John) or would one infringe copyright? I know that one may perform older compositions like by Beethoven, Mozart etc, but I am not sure about compositions from 2nd half of 20th century and 21st century.
Isn't there a rule with 70 years after a composer's death?
Thanks

In Europe, works are usually in public domain after 70 years after composer's death, that is correct. It is Youtube who are responsible for the content uploaded to their servers. They might remove the audio content in case there is an infringement. The most secure thing to do in this case is to create your own 'sufficiently different' arrangement.

Normally most copyright music is allowed on YouTube as long as you don't monetise it on your channel. In specific cases sometimes the copyright owner specifically bans music from certain artists (eg Led Zepellin & Eagles songs usually get blocked). Most artists don't do this though, and any revenue generated from the song will (rightfully) go to the copyright holder.

Re: PIANOTEQ VIDEO CONTEST 2021 - INSTRUCTIONS

Thanks for your posts. I have received so many different opinions on this topic and also found some information on the internet. I found out that some musicians I like a lot would not be happy at all, if I used their compositions and I of course accept it. To annoy a musician that I like would be a worst case scenario.
I am not going to infringe the 70 years rule and better perform compositions by Elton John etc. for myself or in a small group of friends only.
I hope inspiration will kiss me in the next 7 days to make me submit some nice track

Hi, dear ones.  My name is André Barbosa.  I made my entry today for the Pianoteq Contest 2021. However, reading the instructions, I saw the following observation: “From today until November 7th, post your own video to YouTube where you are using Pianoteq 7 (Standard or Pro version ).  However my version of Pianoteq 7 is the Stage.  So my entry to the pianoteq contest becomes inappropriate?  Thanks.  André Barbosa .

It says "Stage, Standard or Pro version"... So, using PIanoteq Stage (version 7) is fine.
