Topic: Request: MIDI files for demos from the Pianoteq's website

Reasons:

1. User can check his Pianoteq setup by comparing his sound with the demo recording from the website.

2. Using the same MIDI user can compare different instruments.

High-quality wav files of the demo recordings would be cool also.

Ross, many of the MIDI files used for the demos are from the e-competition, anybody has a free access to them (via the COMPETITION HISTORY menu). Information regarding Pianoteq's website demos (music and performer) can be found on pages listen_by_style and listen_ecompetition.

There are other demos that are not issued from the piano-e-competition, but many of them have been provided by courtesy to Modartt for demo purpose, so if you want those MIDI files, you will need to ask the authors for them.

Re: Request: MIDI files for demos from the Pianoteq's website

Hello Ross,

As one who regularly furnishes demos for Modartt, I do not wish for midi files of my live performances to be made public.

Why not?  That's because, in my opinion, one cannot expect to "graft" one midi performance that was created using a specific piano model and preset ... onto a completely different model or even a different preset of the same model.  The results are less than spectacular, and often worse than expected.

When I record my demos, I use ruler-flat velocity response from 0 to 127 key velocity on my ancient vintage 1990 Roland A-80 mother controller keyboard.  Even then, the "feel" of any particular given piano model (Blüthner vs D4 vs K2, for instance), causes me to present differing tempi, different pedal technique and different note-on velocity.  Agreed, the notes are basically the same, but the performances can vary quite significantly.

Here's hoping I answered your question adequately.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you, that was helpful!  Btw, it looks like there are MID files for performances from 2002-2018, but not for 2019 onwards.

I recommend the 1st prize winner Ka Jeng Wong's performances!
