Topic: Headphone/headset for 3D audio for use with Ptq

Hi all,

I wish to use headphones with Pianoteq and be able to hear the difference in sound as I move my head. Would anyone be able to recommend an out-of-the-box solution? I do have some good headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250Ohms). I have no technical knowledge of how to go about this so any advice would be very gratefully appreciated.

Warmest regards,

Chris

P.s. just came across this. No 3D head change/sound change capability, but may interest some. Quite an amazing pieces of kit.

I use wave nx (abbey road studio) with head tracker. I find it very realistic, I often control my monitors because I think the sound is coming from them... but no, they are off...

Hi YvesTh,

I have taken the plunge and ordered the abbey road and tracker bundle. Bit of a learning curve ahead, but that's good for the brain!

Warmest regards,

Chris

Thank you YvesTh, I certainly will. I've already installed the abbey road software and am very impressed by that. Just have to wait for the tracker to ship. Quite looking forward to the experience! Thank you for your help and advice,

Warmest regards,

Chris

OK, where to start???

Here goes...

The headtracker arrived today. I got it set up very easily (very intuitive setup process). I initially set it up with the Abby Road Studios nx plugin, but I thought the sound was to coloured. It brilliant if you want to recreate a particular studio's sound (there's also a famous German studio and I think there is another), but I wanted to keep it as clean as possible. With this in mind I took the plunge and bought the nx mix plugin (it's currently €29 instead of €109). I then download, activated and pulled up this nx mix plugin and was absolutely convinced that I'd made the right choice. I chose the 7.1Stereo version of the plugin and boy does it sound good. It more than adds to the realism of Pianoteq (and Pianoteq was brilliant in my eyes before!). I highly recommend this setup.

A great big thank you to you YvesTh. The learning curve was so easy with this solution and I extremely grateful for your recommendation. May I humbly recommend to you the nx mix plugin.

Thank you to to Modartt, Waves Audio and Van of Meershop, Netherlands, where I purchased the tracker and Abbey Road Studios bundle.

Thanks again to all,

Warmest regards,

Chris

Thank you very much for this feedback... What do you think of the effect of the headtracker which projects the sound in front of you in a very realistic way when you move your head ? For me the sound seems to escape from the headset.
I sometime use the nx mix but I like the mid monitors of Abbey road studio with Steinway D Inside or Under lid.

Hi YvesTh

I love the effect of the headtracker. I think it really makes you feel your sat infront of a piano. The realism is quite remarkable. I'll try the abbey road mids with the Ptq presets you mentioned. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction, I'm very pleased with the results,

Warmest regards,

Chris
