Much like the Arturia effort, I wonder who Roland turned to for help on this project..

Re: Roland piano software

If more digital piano manufacturers release hi-end software versions of their best digital pianos, people will turn to use softwares instead of buy a entire new digital piano each 4 or 5 years.
How would this affect the profit for the manufacturers?

About the video, for me it sounds a step or two closer to samplers, and not as alive as pianoteq.

Re: Roland piano software

IMHO Roland's latest effort and Arturia both pale in comparison to Pianoteq, at least according to my ears...

That's not to say they didn't get help to get where they are so far though.

Re: Roland piano software

Well, Roland and sampling…..
”….. combining detailed multi-sampling with proprietary modeling techniques for the perfect blend of realism…….”
I suppose :Multisampling - recording several samples of the same sound + their own modeling.

To my ears Roland Earth Piano sounds sampled - sound is too hard or cold or  -  sampled. Pianoteq doesn’t sound sampled. And Modartt have ”….physically modelled and thus can simulate the playability and complex behaviour of real acoustic instruments.  As they say   ”true modelling”. No samples. That gives
complex behaviour of real acoustic instruments.

Although at my age, my ear says you can't achieve the playability and complex behaviour of real acoustic instruments with samples, though you try
recording several samples of the same sound, multisampling.

Well this is what I, an old amateur, think about it, and I’m not saying Roland is bad.
As Beto-Music says:  ”not as alive as pianoteq”.

Best wishes,

Stig

Re: Roland piano software

What's the size of Earth Piano software?

If it's hybrid (probably is) it would take more space than a pure modeling software.

If someone had sent me just a mp3 and asked if was modeled or sampled, I would say it was sampled.

But some Roland's hi end pricy piano models clains to be fully modeled. How they compare to Earth Piano software???

Re: Roland piano software

apparently it's hybrid software

Advanced modeling techniques brought together in a single instrument.
EARTH Piano brings the best of Roland piano sound technology to your music. So not really a true physical modelling design after all.

It is difficult to have a precise idea based on these extracts.

But be careful, Roland has been working on hybrid technology for over 15 years.
It's called Supernatural.

They are currently in the third generation.

I have a generation 1 Supernatural piano and frankly it sounds great.
I regularly come back to it when I get tired of my VSTs

It is obvious that the sound is now outdated but for the rest there is nothing to say. The velocity response, resonances and pedaling are absolutely flawless.

In short, in my opinion, this information is to be taken very seriously.
Roland has real know-how when it comes to the piano.

If the Earth piano is at least equivalent to the Supernatural, then Roland will have succeeded in producing a software piano without pedaling and resonance defects, unlike all other sampled piano editors

It's already very good.

Re: Roland piano software

In my opinion, Roland’s pianos are great, but the Roland Cloud Manager is terrible bloatware.
