Topic: Recording frequency

Hello,
This is a question that does not particularly concern Pianoteq but I ask it here, knowing that there are usually experts.
So here I am, I have a doubt, something that is not very clear in my mind:
If I do an audio recording of an electronic instrument whose sound is at 44100Hz sample rate (with cables from the output of the instrument to the input of my soundcard), is there any reason to record it at a higher frequency? I want to say no, but...

the long version: it's always the weakest link in a chain that determines the final result, in this case the 44.1 kHz of the source.

If you have a digital connection from instrument to soundcard, no. Leave it unaltered.

If (as I suspect) you are describing a situation where the audio has already been converted to analog before leaving the device, then is converted back to digital at the input of your soundcard, considerations should be the same as for any other analog recording: mainly, what sample rate will avoid needing to convert it again later.
