Topic: Line array speaker/amp advice

Hi all,

I'm seeking advice on choosing a line array speaker/amp. Anyone here using such in combination with Ptq?

Any help whatsoever would be gratefully appreciated!

Warmest regards,

Chris

So many choices... Budget ? Average number of people in the audience?

Small room. Just need more of a non-directional sound. £500 or so. Could stretch.

I'm looking for realism in the room. I've settled on some lovely settings in Ptq with the Steingraeber. It's my go-to now. Also looking to record with phone what comes from the line array within small band setup (live guitar and harmonica).

Warmest regards,

Chris

Re: Line array speaker/amp advice

This is not a very big budget for a couple of mini line arrays... except if the room is VERY small ?
This one (the "8" model), for example could perform in a +/- 100 people (or more) room with ease, but you need 2 of them...

I was thinking just one line array? It's only a very small room in my flat. To give you some idea of the size, we can only fit around five people in it!

I saw/heard a single Bose L1 on YouTube years ago which filled a small hall.

Any brands I should know to stay clear of before doing any internet research?

Thank you for your assistance Luc,

Warmest regards,

Chris

UPDATE:

Have ordered a Behringer C210 (mains powered). I'll post a review when I've had a few days with it.

OK, I was thinking of a small hall and not a room... But then I wonder about your choice: a single line array will only give mono sound, whatever the model. Would a more conventional 2.1 system not be preferable?

Thank you Luc.

I'm using a mono setting (albeit with stereo effect). Sounds really lovely through headphones and monitors. I'll report back as soon as the speaker arrives and I've got it set up.

Chris

Re: Line array speaker/amp advice

Ok. Arrived this afternoon. Have set it up and had a mess with it for a bit. Couldn't do much as flat above was listening to some music so didn't want to disturb!

Will have to spend some time tweaking. Will report back soon.

Warmest regards,

Chris

Re: Line array speaker/amp advice

Hi,

Had the C210 two days now. Not much to report yet as still getting used to it. I think the DSP can only be used when streaming via Bluetooth or playing back via usb, SD card etc..

As to sound. It's very loud. Ample for the room. Not sure if it's in the best position in the room, but sounds quite boxy? I think I need to do some research!

Any tips guys???

Warmest regards,

Chris

"Loud” for sure, given the specs, ‘boxy’ probably has something to do with the crossover's (unknown...) frequency. I have a similar system from another brand, and I have to dig deep into the frequencies around 150 Hz to get an acceptable sound.

Thank you Luc.i have a 120Hz option. I'll check it out. More tweaking!

Thanks again,

Re: Line array speaker/amp advice

Sorted!

I had plugged the line out of my audio interface to the mic input of the C210 instead of the instrument input as I should have done. Works beautifully now. Very impressed.

Now I need to learn some music to actually play so I can do a demo video.

Thanks for your helpful input Luc,

Warmest regards,

Chris
