Topic: New Bosendorfer 280VC - "I loves you Porgy"

Hi all. Just downloaded the new Bosendorfer yesterday and really love this new sound. I wanted to try it on a track - this one I originally recorded with VSL Steinway and I just couldn't get happy with that sound - too thin and cold. Much happier with the warmer / more woody sound on the Bosendorfer.

The piece is jazz solo piano a la 'school' of Bill Evans.

Re: the preset, I made a few small changes starting from the default instrument (Bosendorfer 280VC). (1) 'treble' EQ. (2) 3rd harmonic up by 1db. (3) Hammer hardness 0.27, 0.78, 1.60. I'm on Kawai Novus NV10S.

For the record I also love the Pianotec Steinway D (NY) & Bechstein. Getting to know the Bluthner although that's taking a bit longer.

Hello James and welcome to this forum,

Nice impro and sound. I might use your changes, have not got Bösendorfer yet. But soon.

I like your playing. Nice slow beginning, then a faster section from about 2,17 interesting, then a slower section ending with a beautiful last chord. Good job!
Enjoyed it. Nice to hear your way, how to bring this music to life.

Bluethner is good , depending of the music style. Used it and U4 for a long time then I fell in love with Steingraeber. Now I like Petrof Mistral, Steinway B and of course this Bösendorfer. Fantastic demos on Modartt site.

Thanks for sharing. Keep going now!
Nice to meet you James.

Best wishes,

Stig

Thanks Stig! The 'conception' is basically Bill Evans-ish in the harmonic 'architecture' + Bud Powell-ish in the improvisational language. It has been a big challenge to find a piano sound that I liked for this type of music. Wasted 2 months on other sample companies before I thought to try Pianoteq! Needs to be warm / rich but with harmonic colours. All the best.
