Topic: Legacy Reverb

The Pianoteq Legacy Reverb is one that in the past I've always looked at as 'been 'old technology, this is not worth using'. I now believe, at least to my ears, it is by far the best reverb in Pianoteq, preferring it even to my TC Electronic Vintage Reverb Plugin.

In the settings to the Legacy Reverb, I set the duration to 5.00 (slider max to the right), mix setting either default or around -8.0 dB, the room size I leave as it is. I tried this on the Neupert Clavichord, this sounds very musical, the Karsten Collection, and also the Kremsegg, all these instruments sounding good. I don't use modern grands but I presume these would be good also.

I use Pianoteq with the Limiter off, and reduce the master volume when required, I also use the Werckmiester tuning in most of my playing.

P.S I'm still using Pianoteq 7, I hope and presume Pianoteq 8 has the Legacy Reverb.

Re: Legacy Reverb

The Legacy reverb is still there yes. It still sounds good. I haven't used it much. Plenty of external reverbs and the internal IR responses to choose from.

Try the demo of this for something different:

Re: Legacy Reverb

Thanks Key Fumbler. I'll see how I go with using the Legacy Reverb for now, I prefer using Pianoteq in standalone not a DAW, although I haven't tried IR responses.

I have tried the Legacy Reverb on three playback devices, these are my main keyboard, PC and amp/speakers, AKG 702s, and my phone with a WAV recording, this with the speakers not headphones, I always check on this device because of it's inferior audio quality. The Legacy Reverb gave Pianoteq more life to the sound.

As always though, over time I might find fault with it, but didn't over a two day testing on the above devices.

I agree with you.

In addition to reverb, there are many "legacy" Pianoteq things that are excellent. The C. Bechstein 1896 piano, which is available in the legacy instruments in the user area, for example, is an excellent piano. I even made a video about it on my You Tube channel.

Re: Legacy Reverb

Nice work there Professor Leandro Duarte.

I tried the C. Bechstein 1899 in the Kremsegg Collection, this sounded good with the Legacy Reverb.

My favourite two instruments at the momement, both with the Legacy Reverb are the Neupert Clavichord, and the Broadwood (Kremsegg), these are near perfect. The G. Giusti Harpsichord is still some way off for me, as mentioned in a previous post recently, the harpsichords in Pianoteq are not so musical, hopefully a future update on these soon, then I would require Pianoteq 8, not much in this latest version for me, it's the historical instruments I'm interested in.

Re: Legacy Reverb

This makes my day Glad you decided to give the old reverb a try Nick. (also good to know you're still into the historical pianos.. they still have a strong gravity well I can't get out from at times)

In every case, it's really what is best to your ears, your music and aesthetic desires. Often it's old tech to the rescue!

Re: Legacy Reverb

Thanks Qexl. Yes, this reverb has the sound I've been after for a long time, and it was already there in Pianoteq.
