Topic: Debussy - Préludes Book 1

Claude Debussy's "Préludes, Book 1" is a groundbreaking collection of twelve piano pieces published in 1910, each with its own unique character and emotions.

Unlike traditional preludes that typically precede a main work, Debussy's preludes stand as independent pieces that pursue expressive soundscapes through innovative harmony and texture.

In this collection, the titles of the pieces are modestly placed at the end of the sheet music. This reflects Debussy's intent to prevent the listener's impressions from being confined by the titles, yet paradoxically, each piece vividly conveys the essence of its title through its radiant expression.

Thanks so much again HAL!
Here are my favorites, because in these pieces of music so much happens, they are extremely interesting in many ways.

Le vent dans la plaine
This sounds maddeningly difficult.
5
Les collines d’Anacapri (The Hills of Anacapri)
I like the dynamic range.Nice ending.
7
Ce qu’a vu le vent d’ouest
Absolutely intriguing
9
La sérénade interromque
Wonderful Debussy!
10
La cathédrale englouti   (The Sunken Cathedral)
This piece is based on an ancient Breton legend (coming from Bretagne, France)  in which a cathedral, immersed under water off the coast of the island of Ys, rises from the sea on clear mornings when the water is transparent. One can hear sounds of priests chanting, bells ringing and organs playing, on the other side of the sea.
To me, one of his finest piece,
11
La danse de Puck
This is amazing.
12
Minstrels
Wow Debussy was so creative, much color, ahead-of-his-time musician.

And, maybe, well, those titles might not be so descriptive. There is much more to the pieces than the mere description of some hills or a cathedral, I think their importance are more deep than the titles.

And, I'm so glad to have you in this forum. You upload such enjoyable music

Best wishes,

Stig

Re: Debussy - Préludes Book 1

Thank you always Stig!

This reproduction of Debussy's collection of pieces serves as a good benchmark test for not only the creator of the sound source but also for Pianoteq, in terms of full-range pitch, dynamics, and variations in nuance.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Best regards,
HAL
