What else do I need to get an intimate recording as a piano solo in professional quality?
I would choose a Prelude preset for this.
Are external plug-ins such as EQ or compressor also necessary? Is there any kind of guide on how to get a professional recording?

What FX plugins to use - It's extremely subjective anyway. Is there a virtual piano recording/performance benchmark you have in mind for this? - a track you really like and were impressed by the production quality with virtual Piano?
What do you mean by professional- at what level?
What type of music?
While someone making a piano backing track for a corporate video may well use an excellent sounding virtual instrument we aren't at a point where we are likely to hear that on say a Deutsche Gramophone classical recording. Even if the sound quality is good enough already for the majority of listeners (or getting close - and I don't think majority of the public is so discerning most of the time) this is unlikely to be accepted at a professional level, even if they were to become indistinguishable in the future.
There's a great deal that you can do within Pianoteq without turning to external FX. I like experimenting with all sorts of other reverbs though but this isn't about necessity to achieve "professional" results.
