Topic: PIanoteq sounds better with Cubase 13 than Cubase 12, MIDI 2.0?

Yesterday I bought Cubase 13 and currently I am working on a piano piece and when I played the file created in Cubase 12 in Cubase 13 it sounded better, more details and refined.
I had read that Cubase 13 now supports MIDI 2.0 and I am now wondering if that has any influence on how Pianoteq sounds? Has anybody noticed the same as well?

does your keyboard supports midi 2.0  and use CC#88 . If not Cubase 13 only has access to no more than 127 différents velocities and therefore if there is sound difference it is more likely due to optimisation of their midi rendering engine or use of better samples . Just my guess .

More generally , I would be very curious if people which have  a  midi 2.0  keyboard compatible with midi 2.0 implementation have noticed an improvement.

From my standpoint , I don’t expect an audible change in volume levels . Even with midi 1, the human ear cannot detect a velocity delta of +1 or -1 but for sure in term of playability , the difference between a VST with 20 layers and 127 layers of pianoteq  is definitely perceptible and is more likely to be  related to a better linearity in term of tone , given the tone itself varies with velocity , as opposed to an audible variation in volume .

After I heard about the Cubase 13 update, I decided to try it out, and it's made things better for me. The Channel Tab is awesome because I can easily adjust stuff for each track without jumping around different screens. It's made everything much quicker for me.

I also really like how the MixConsole looks now – it's easier to use, and its new parts help a lot. The Range Tool is also excellent; it allows me to edit MIDI stuff more quickly. And the latest tools for working with vocals are excellent! I've been using the new vocoder, EQs, and compressor, especially for my vocal tracks, which sound much better.

The daw. Sounds better..hmm, check your comparative sound pressure levels.

I'm not convinced that MIDI 2.0 would bring any audible improvements in the percussive elements of piano instruments.
Even when taking into account lossy velocity curves regular midi has more than ample velocity steps.
0-127 covering quite a small dynamic range in Pianoteq meaning each step is a fraction of a decibel, in other words almost impossible to perceive, even when playing just a single key. However we don't just play a single key so multiple keys will be averaged out even further.
That's not to say midi 2.0 will not bring a number of improvements. Perhaps midi 2.0 coupled with high resolution foot pedals we'll bring improvements to the piano pedals compared to the crude efforts we have today. There again an incredibly subtle element of piano playing.
