MIDI Note numbers in Global MIDI Mapping?

Am I correct in assuming that there's no way to insert a specified MIDI note as the triggering MIDI action in the Global MIDI Mapping menu, other than by creating a MIDI note trigger somewhere else (in Manage Presets) with MIDI Learn and then edit the parameters of that key switch in the Global MIDI Mapping menu? If so, why? If not, how is it done? MIDI notes are not among the triggers in the popup menu (there's only CC, Pgm, Pitch Bemd, Aftertouch etc.)

EDIT: I now saw that there's the 'Pick from Last Messages' option in the popup menu. So to select, say, MIDI Note 24 as the trigger, I can play it on the keyboard and then the popup menu will suggest it.
