Topic: How to download the free instruments?

[I'm sorry to bug people with such a simple question, but I have put a lot of time into trying to solve it myself, and I did send a message to Modartt's tech support last week that they haven't responded to.]

Can someone tell me *precisely* how I can download the free Pianoteq instruments (KIViR / Bells and Carillons) in the user area (https://www.modartt.com/user_area?s=downloads)?

I'm running Windows 10 Pro.

I see the instruction: "Installation: drop the PTQ files in the Pianoteq interface."

I've spent over 45 minutes trying to figure out what that means. I've tried so many things, including drag and dropping the two .ptq files onto the stand-alone Pianoteq program and also the program when it's loaded in Studio One.

I've tried dragging the files to various places in the Windows file structure. And much more.

What's incredibly frustrating is that I had *exactly* the same problem when I *first* bought Pianoteq half a year ago and installed it on my old computer. I somehow finally got it to work but I can't remember how, and it's no more intuitive this time.

I can *see* the files on my old computer; they're in two directories:
    C:\Program Files\Modartt\Pianoteq 8
    C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Roaming\Modartt\Pianoteq\Addons

But, when I try to drag the .ptq files to the first directory (C:\Program Files\Modartt\Pianoteq 8) on my new computer, Windows pops up an error message "Error Moving File or Folder // Access is denied".

And when I try to drag the .ptq files to the second directory (C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Roaming\Modartt\Pianoteq\Addons) on my new computer, it seems to work -- I can see the files sitting in the directory -- but, when I start up Pianoteq, either stand-alone or in Studio One, I still see only the instruments that I purchased, not the free ones.

Could someone please put me out of my misery and tell me *exactly* what I need to do to install these free instruments on Windows 10?

Thanks so much!

Dropping them onto the user interface of pianoteq (open it standalone not in a DAW) should work. I have those all installed with no issues.

Either I don't understand what you mean, or it doesn't work for me. Here's what I do:

Last week I downloaded and installed Pianoteq v8.1.1 on my new computer. I start it up in standalone mode. Pianoteq displays a bunch of stuff for the "NY Steinway D Classical" keyboard on my screen.

I go to the web page https://www.modartt.com/user_area?s=downloads , and scroll down to where it says "Free Pianoteq instruments." I mouse over the underlined "KIViR.ptq". As I mouse over this text, the mouse icon on the screen changes to a small hand and a little window pops up on the screen, showing information about the underlying file.

I left-click on the "KIViR.ptq" text and drag it across my screen to the window where Pianoteq is displaying the "NY Steinway D Classical" keyboard.

As I drag the "KIViR.ptq" text, the mouse icon changes to a circle with a diagonal line through it, which I think usually means "forbidden." I drag the text all over the Pianoteq keyboard screen. I drag it over the menu at the top, the label saying "NY Steinway D Classical", the icons to the right of that, the "Tuning", "Voicing" and "Design" sub-windows, the "Velocity" sub-window, the keyboard display at the bottom of the window.

At every location, the mouse icon stays a circle with a diagonal line through it. Wherever I let go of the left mouse button, the mouse icon disappears and nothing happens. I've done this many times.

If I drag that same "KIViR.ptq" text onto a Windows directory, it copies the file to that directory. But I can never get it to do anything when I drag it onto the Pianoteq interface.

I'd really appreciate someone telling me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

I think your problem is that you are dragging the download link to the Pianoteq interface and not the downloaded file.
After you have downloaded the KIViR.ptq file, please try to drag the file itself to the Pianoteq interface.

THAT'S IT!

I clicked on the "KIViR.ptq" text (and also the "bells.ptq" text), let my system download those files to my PC's disk, then dragged each of *those* files to the Pianoteq interface and . . . voila.

I put so much time into this and I knew I was missing something important. Thank you so much for your help.

Best,
Eric
