Topic: Pianoteq IOS released

Have just downloaded it  :-)

Have upgraded to Standard with my existing license.

Thank you Modartt!!!!!

For interest: M1 iPad Pro. Performance index 107 on demo tune

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Interestingly it identifies the CPU on my M1 iPad as an A14. Possibly needs a bug fix for that

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Can someone explain exactly how the licensing/activation scheme works? I have a phone and a couple of iPads and a couple of laptops.  Trying to make sure I can install where I am going to use most often.

Yes, I'd like some clarification on that too.  I haven't upgraded to Pianoteq 8 yet - while it's nice to have Pianoteq IOS on just one device, I'd probably pass on the upgrade if I can't get it on both my iPad and iPhone as I'm currently unsure where I'd use it more often if it's only one licence.

So I have it activated on one IOS device. This uses one of the 3 activation slots. So my guess is you can have 3 devices running pianoteq. Doesn't matter what the OS is, as long as it is 3 or less. maybe an iPad, iPhone and a PC for instance. Modartt would need to confirm

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Yes, we will probably need to put that in the FAQ.

All your iOS devices will share the same activation slot (as long as you use the same apple id on them).

Thank you Julien! That is perfectly clear.

By the way, I think this is overall a great implementation of joint licensing for Mac and iOS. As good as I had hoped for. Industry leading, in many ways.

Sincere thanks and kudos to Modartt.

One last clarification- is Family Sharing allowed?

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Just downloaded, activated and tested on my iPad 7th gen. So far, works great! I even increased from the default (44.1 KHZ, polyphony of 48) to 48KHz and 128 note poly, 128 samples buffer. Even playing fast arpeggios with the pedal down, I did not experience clipping or other artefact.
Bravo!

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Awesome! Sounds great so far. Is there a way to hide the on-screen keyboard when selecting a custom pedal assignment from the drop-down selector? On my phone (iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 16.3.1), only the first 4 options are visible, and the keyboard covers the rest.

Really appreciate that our existing licenses transferred over. That is awesome. Thanks, Modartt!

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Thank you Modartt.
Just installed it on my iPad Pro 12.9 A12X.

What a fabulous product!!

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Playing on iPhone 13 (A15 chip) 48k Hz sample rate, 128 sample buffer > MOTU Microbook IIc interface > headphones or amp. Sounds exactly same as running on my Mac laptop.  No glitches, no latency. Also tested running inside AUM, mixed with microphone from another source, other apps, etc.  Perfect!  This is a game-changer for me for gigs!

Many thanks Modartt folks!...Awesome that you're making this available as another activation on my existing license.  Just amazing....

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

fantastic implementation on ios and use of existing activation system. kudos to modartt - you put other companies to shame with the way you have done this. so happy to have this on my ipad in addition to my studio

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Thank you! This is fantastic. Best software ever.
Using an iPhone 11 and it plays like a dream!
Now I'm gonna have to get a new iPad just for Pianoteq!!!

Well Done Modartt !!!

Playing with P8 on my iPad lead me to discover the Note Effects tab - never looked at it before.

Here's a quick demo of using it on a simple piece by Purcell

The settings:

Modulation Onset Duration: 0.75
Tremolo Depth: 4.5
Attack Envelope: 0.125

Once again, Bien Fait Modartt - je l'adore et je t'adore !!!!

Hi, is there a way to turn the keyboard on the iOS app to fullscreen? If not I‘d say this is a feature request, Regards, Frank

If you swipe the app from the left hand side, you get a bigger keyboard.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Congrats Modart

My standard setup is 1 usbc cable to a hub, which has keyboard and audio interface. The keyboard has its own audio interface which I don’t use. On Mac I can choose which audio interface to send sound to. But on iPad it only shows they keyboard audio interface and does not show the other audio interface I need. Can iPad be made to choose the correct audio interface?

Thanks.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Wow, great job!
It plays exactly like on pc, the performance is even better (ipad pro 3rd gen.).
Thanks, Modartt! Obtaining a license is very easy and well developed.

I only have noticed a slight delay on my md-bt01 bluetooth midi, I think it's the interface's fault, not Pianoteq's. Not big lag, but noticable.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to reduce it?

Edit: midi over usb (cable) solved the latency issue. I can't stop playing :-)

When I switch to ForScore (or any other app) I no longer hear my keyboard. Is there a workaround?

Turn ON Background Audio in the Pianoteq app.
Under [Options] > [Devices] - the check box at the bottom.

Re: Connect Apple ID to Modartt Account
This was smooth! I was able to connect the Apple ID to Modartt account in seconds (with the Modartt account # handy). I also purchased 2 instruments on the Modartt website, and they showed up immediately on my iPhone. Interestingly, my iOS pricing is in USD while the Modartt website is in EUR :-)

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Quick Hardware / Performance Comparison
I loaded Pianoteq onto some older hardware and ran the Blues demo (to see how low I could go):

iPad Air Original (A7 CPU)
- Had to half the Internal Sample Rate to 24000Hz to get decent performance, 128 samples (2.7ms), 128 polyphony
- Performance Index - a solid 33; similar to the Raspberry Pi / Odroid N2+.
Verdict: Not great but still usable.

iPhone 7 Plus (A10 CPU)
- Had to half the Internal Sample Rate to get decent performance, 128 samples (2.7ms), 128 polyphony
- Performance Index - a very un-stable 12 .. 70 with warnings of large fluctuations, it occasionally dropped to 12 .. 33.
Verdict: Very un- stable Performance Index, despite having a better CPU than the older iPad, it performed much worse, in many cases unusable.

iPhone 11 (A13 CPU)
- Full settings, 128 samples (2.7ms), 128 polyphony
- Performance Index - a very stable 63 .. 76
Verdict: Great, very usable.

NOTES
1. Looks like iPads might have better performance over iPhones, even when the iPad is much older. Perhaps iPads have better heat dissipation or more memory or bandwidth? Something to think about if you're shopping for an iOS device for Pianoteq.

2. The A13 CPU on the iPhone 11 is very usable, would be curious to see if an iPad with the same A13 CPU gets better performance.

3. I wonder if the iPad Pros perform better over regular iPads (with the same CPU). And there may be performance differences between the regular iPhone, iPhone Pro, iPad and iPad Pro lines.

4. Yes I know I really should trade-in those old device already :-)

Could you run the Blues demo and post the Performance Index? You're iPad 7th Gen. has an A10 CPU, I'm curious to see if you're getting similar or better performance to an iPhone with the same CPU.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

I downloaded the Pianoteq Standard iOS app for my iPad pro 12,9 3rd gen.
Seem to work well, but performance index and cpu load are much better with my Macbook Air M1.
I copied my presets (fxp files) in the iPad Pianoteq preset directory, but I can't open them : is it a bug of the app, or a feature not available, or something I made wrong ?
any ideas ?

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

I have downloaded it and upgraded it. I am using my iPhone 12 with IOS 16.3

I am having a sound problem when using it with a Studiologic Numa Compact 2. I am having a lot of glitches and noises on Numa soundspeakers. Pianoteq uses nc2 audio speakes and don't let me use the iPhone audio.

If I use my Novation Impulse 61 MIDI Controller, Pianoteq uses the iPhone audio and everything works fine.

Can you help me with this problem? I really like to use the 88 keys Numa Compact 2.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Great work Modartt! Indeed, really nice that we don't have to re-purchase stuff but can link to our account. I was still using Pianoteq 7, but this was the reason to finally update to 8.

It even works smoothly on my old iPhone SE (A9 although PT reports A7), although with reduced polyphony (48) and increased buffer (128).

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

If I make in-app purchase on IOS, does that mean I get the desktop version as well, or do I need to do the purchases on Modartt's site to licences that work on both desktop and IOS?

Strange, it doesn't work... I am on an

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Is it possible to export MIDI configuration files (.ptm) from the iOS app?  I'd like to move my setup (mainly a long list of Program Change mappings) between PC and iOS.

I found how to export presets (.fxp) and velocity mappings (.mfxp).  And I think I found how to import MIDI configs (there's a Browse option that I suspect will pull in a .ptm file).  But no MIDI config export.

May be better to contact support

It’s ok now I can access my presets : just had to copy them in a sub directory « My presets » in the Presets folder (first not copied them in the sub directory…)

You get the desktop version as well which you can download form the user area after creating your user account using your purchased serial.

So worth the wait. Now I have everything I need for live gigging with just my iPad Pro. THANK YOU Modartt.

As somebody who doesn't like Apple and doesn't use their products, I have to admit that you guys have been really great. We all knew already you are so great from a technical and customer-focus point of view, but boys! Kudos to you for being able to accomplish all of this and basically "giving it away for free" to your existing customers. WOW. What an incredible value! And with all the Apple tax on top of that. And without increasing your prices (hope that will be maintained moving forward, since I'm not interested in running Pianoteq on iOS )

I can't state in words how impressed I am.

Now, please go back to work for that Android version too, ROTFL

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Does anybody else find it annoying that every time they close the Pianoteq iOS app on their iPhone (by swiping up quickly from the bottom of the screen) this causes the piano condition slider to be "touched" and therefore the currently active preset gets modified?

You could slide the app up in the meantime, showing the keyboard at the bottom instead of the condition slider before closing.

I haven't experienced the slider issue, but, Modartt, I cannot swipe from the left to show the bigger keyboard on iPhone XR/iOS 16.4.1 - swipe works on other iDevices. It's not a huge deal as I'll rarely use that keyboard, but someone else might.

I'm going to change my review of Pianoteq on my older hardware!!!
*** Pianoteq runs fine on the iPhone 7 Plus (2016 / A10 CPU) ***
*** Pianoteq runs okay on the original iPad Air (2013 / A7 CPU) ***

I went back and disabled all Widgets, Notifications, Siri, WIFI and Bluetooth and then did a stress test with the Steinway D Classical preset (4 mics) so, worse case scenario.

iPhone 7 Plus (2016 / A10 CPU) PI = 30 - 70
It came close to cracking, but it held steady even with the pedal down and hitting a full 128 polyphony! Still wide fluctuations in the performance index but it doesn't overload the CPU.

iPad Air (2013 / A7 CPU) PI = 33
Had to half the sample rate to get it stable (22050 down from 44100 Hz). Basically the same performance as a Raspberry Pi or Odroid N2+. Fairly stable, though I did get a little click once in awhile - but still very usable!

Notes:
My iPhone 11 handles Pianoteq fine, even with all the Widgets/Notifications etc. ON.
Please keep in mind, performance may suffer if you use the device in hot weather.

Yes, that's what I've been doing in the meantime as a workaround. I still thought it was valuable to highlight the issue so that it can be fixed, so that a workaround is not necessary.

Jellotree wrote:

I haven't experienced the slider issue

I'm sure you will be able to see it for yourself if you try to go back to the home screen by swiping, without purposefully doing the workaround discussed above, especially since you do have a modern iPhone that does support that gesture.

Jellotree wrote:

Indeed, I can confirm this same issue. On my iPhone 12 Pro I cannot swipe from the left to show the bigger keyboard. But on my iPad and my other iPhone (an iPhone 6s), I can.

Separately from these discussed issues, I've also reported a separate bug to Modartt by email: On my iPhone 6s, when I go into the Options and choose to hide several of the instruments from the presets, those choices are not saved, and the next time I launch the app all instruments are visible again. This problem doesn't happen on my iPad or my iPhone 12 Pro.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Modartt, what an amazing job! I quickly installed it on my phone in the office to check it out and performance is superb.

Just a quick question: my "piano iPad" uses a different Apple ID so it refused to register the same license. I removed the apple id entry in the Modartt user area, where I do the same with computers/laptops but the iPad still refuses to accept the serial nr and the iPhone still shows "registered" (and works).

Am I overseeing something or should I file a support request to have someone manually disconnect Apple ID 1 so I can register under Apple ID 2?

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Massive thanks to Modarrt. This runs really well on my 1st gen 12.9 iPad Pro, superb in fact considering this is a 2017 device!
Is there a way to sync presets from my desktop app to the IOS app - sorry if this has already been asked etc.

If you haven't already it would help  Modarrt if we created some reviews on the App Store, every little helps etc.

Thanks Modarrt.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

I created a forum account just to say how much I love your licensing policy, especially for such a high end product.

I'm so excited to have so much power on my phone.

Thank you Modartt.

Great work indeed, please praise the iOS application on the Modartt’s main page (because it is still there Soon on iOS, iOS application coming soon) ;-)

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Great product, great iOS version! I have Pro Studio, with all instruments. It worked well on my iPad Pro 2018 (A12x), iPhone 12 Pro (A14) and 2019 iPad (A10). In fact I’m planning to try gigging with the iPad ($300 device in 2019) in lieu of my Mac M1 laptop. It has a great interface that’s easier to use live (with the touch screen) and more convenient than a laptop as it sits nicely on the music stand alongside the iPad Pro with ForScore. Of course I could use the iPad Pro for both, but like to have both screen showing.
I can’t believe I can use it on all my devices without paying anything extra. I’ll probably retire the raspberry pi setup I had created as a backup to the laptop. Now I have three backups!

Logic Pro X is being released on iPad this month. It will run on A10 iPads and later. I’m wondering if it will be possible to use PTQ with that on the iPad. I know, I’m getting greedy!

Thank you, Modartt. Thanks for taking the time to do it right.

Fully agree with everything.  But correcting one bit of misinformation.  Logic Pro on iOS will require the A12 Bionic processor or better.

I think this excludes both your 2019 iPad and your 2018 iPad Pro.

Good news, though, yes, I'm sure Pteq will load as AUv3 in Logic Pro for iOS.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

Hesitz,
Thanks for the correction on the processor level required for Logic Pro.
I do believe, though, that the A12x (bionic) processor in the iPad Pro 2018 model should be sufficient. It has more cores than the A12 Bionic.

Re: Pianoteq IOS released

I am coming to PianoTeq strictly from an IOS perspective. I went for Studio to just enjoy the world of pianos and more…

I have noticed the IOS version is missing a couple features that I can see in the product notes and on my 2 MacBooks:
1. “Load Impulse Wave file…” is not implemented. I’d love to play around with that but I have to admit the provided Impulse files are excellent.
2. 192KHz audio (this maybe an Apple limitation).

If I am in err please let me know.

I’ve been having a ball using the Note Editing, Morph and Layering to create very acoustic sounding instruments that do NOT exist.

I think not both. A12x Bionic from the iPad Pro 2018 (3rd gen) is just the octa-core (faster) variant of A12 Bionic (as A12z from newer IpadPro 4th gen).
