Topic: Any thoughts on the "Edifier S1000MKII" speakers?

I'm certainly no audiophile, aside from appreciating that a mid-range pair of Sennheiser headphones provides a much better sound quality than the speaker system that even a higher-end digital piano comes with.

My setup would be:

Lumatone + New Laptop + Far too many DP-10 Pedals + "speakers"

i.e. keeping the entire setup separate (if needs be) from digital pianos and amplifiers.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Edit: Forgot to mention that Pianoteq 8 (Steinway, K2 & Blüthner) will of course be the main feature of my laptop. Mostly for realistic extended-compass piano music, classical music being my preferred genre.

I am not familiar with this line of products but I have used  various l
speakers for home usage and for performances in larger venues . One aspect of sound you must think of is rendition of bass notes . I would recommend to add  a subwoofer in addition to any pair of good monitors you buy , as  you are likely to have a lack of resonance for the bass notes otherwise . A good subwoofer makes a big difference .

I have the smaller r1855 model and I'm amazed by the quality/price ratio. The 70 W power (against 120 W for the S1000) is a bit too "light" for me but I'm comparing the sound to a real grand... Sure also, the low range is really present but not very well defined, but here I'm comparing to Dynaudio studio monitors costing many many times the price ! I think that for the budget of the Edifier's, you can't get anything much better. I should add that I bought my set in january, so I cannot speak about longevity. And of course this is just my very personal opinion.

Re: Any thoughts on the "Edifier S1000MKII" speakers?

One encouraging feature is that it is a true active loudspeaker. What I mean by that is it has separate amplifiers per drive unit. It has an active crossover driving the amplifiers which are directly connected to the drive units.

Many low cost powered speakers are really just passive powered speakers. What that means is they take a passive speaker and shove the amplifier in the same box.
It's a lazy cheap design. Sometimes even what you would think as more serious loudspeaker companies think they can get away with this suboptimal system.

Yes it is a real bi-amp system with a special cable and connector linking the active unit (containing all 4 amps) and the passive unit. Nice design.

Ha ha, that's a unusual arrangement. Probably a good design at the price point, only requiring one PSU. less integrated circuits and so on.
Only one power cable needed that way though - good for slightly better wife/spouse acceptance factor. So in reality full active with individual amplifiers per drive unit, but all stuffed into only one speaker (like passive powered designed only proper active). Direct connected amplifiers as per true active.

That passive wired arrangement is fine when you want a stereo pair. Awkward if you wanted to use them in surround.

Would be nice to see some independent measurements on those things.

"Output Power (RMS)
35W×2 (Mid-Range/Bass)+25W×2 (Treble)"

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and insights on this.

I've been using the same old speakers which came with my all-in-one Sony hi-fi system from about 20 years ago.
Bucket loads of RMS, but somewhat lacking on the quality and clarity of sound!
