Topic: 8.0.6

no MIDI?

- Don't panic - In my case I had to go back to MIDI devices and just click on the MIDI options again...

(samething a couple years ago - I didn't know why the upgrade killed Ptq and went a version back for a few days - this was it)

Re: 8.0.6

Now 8.0.7 is out, did they fix this issue there? Asking, since I haven't gotten to installing the update(s) yet. Someone was criticising Modartt for not releasing an update since last Christmas or so. I think they more than made up for that delay now, two updates in a couple of days, wonder if they were reading the forum and took it to heart. Not that Modartt should update just to update, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Same thing moving from 8.0.6 to 8.0.7:

The MIDI seems to correctly selected but you'll have to de-select and re-select - just that.

Re: 8.0.6

Seemed to be OK here using 8.0.7 on Windows.

Just to help understand, are you using Win/Linux or other? Also, by 'no MIDI', do you mean not seeing the piano roll, or not seeing MIDI notes in the options/MIDI pane, or that it's not sending MIDI to your DAW or something else? Cheers!

I use Linux Debian testing

No MIDI events are reported in the midi messages panel under the options window MIDI tab.

but my main message is "don't panic..."

Re: 8.0.6

Ah - would be good to know/kind of ironic if clicking the "!" (exclamation point icon, bottom right front interface) which is the old fashioned "MIDI panic" button works for that? (may save a round-trip to MIDI settings at least for now).

I'd recommend to send a bug report to make sure it's seen tho. Cheers!

Re: 8.0.6

I can confirm this small issue:
I have to uncheck/check my MIDI input device in Pianoteq to receive MIDI events (v8.0.7 Standard Linux x86-64bit).

It worked in the previously installed v8.0.5.

My usual workflow is to start my desktop and login. Then I switch on my Korg B2, set it to LOCAL-OFF and deactivate AUTO POWEROFF.

At least I start Pianoteq from the command-line.

( The midi device is existing, before Pianoteq starts. Verification:
$ amidi -l
Dir Device    Name
IO  hw:2,0,0  B2 MIDI 1 )

Debian 11.6 Bullseye, compiled kernel.

Re: 8.0.6

We found a regression in the linux MIDI device handling, which is causing this issue as a side effect (it may also cause crashes..). We will release an update very soon.

Thank you!

I "never" shutdown/restart my Pianoteq computer or close Pianoteq itself and didn't have a crash since,... since... ever?

I don't tell me how to conduct my life!
Also I use it as a home server for other functionalities. Not that's any of your business!

(It's ok I eventually get banned from forums - I'm used to it.)

I just find it kind of funny when I see people saying that. Makes you think what's the point trying.

I don't think that particular confession is anything to do with the forum. It's none of my business really. It's just me with defeatist humour.

this is what I think:

We should keep the forum to Pianoteq related issues.
You don't know anything about my life, you think I play piano, how can you be sure?
and now you are playing the victim. don't assume things you have no possibility to know what they are.
(do you like get accusatory advise form strangers on the interwebs that know nothing about you? -  same thing here.)

Wow...I kind of learned not to post on this forum.  People seem to be really on edge now a days.   Typed words are probably the worst form of communication on the planet...if you have any flaws you'll be told about it.  Just accept anything that might be true and fess up to it...make a plan to change...and thank them for caring so much about you that they revealed a small part that's inside of them by pointing out your flaws.  The reason they see the flaws in you is because they have the same flaw in them.

As far as I can see neither of us is a victim in this conversation, it's pretty mild stuff.

Enough of that diversion.

Having an opinion is ok.
Having an opinion that is not related to Pianoteq here doesn't seem not ok to me.
Accusing people of unnecessarily contributing to the destruction of a civilisation on a planet without any knowledge of the situation is not ok.

what they should have said: "If you don't need a computer on 24/7 please turn it off when not in use" - which is what I do since the 1980s.
I also ride my bicycle to work.
I bought a power meter to check how electricity is used and find alternatives.
I bought a thermometer to check for cold spots in my place and insulate them better.
I walk the grocery shop in -25c and +32c.
I started the idea of cycling to school in my old country.
I mention this problem decades ago when it made sense.
I was the first to use CFLs lights.
I was the first to use LED lights.
I have a used small car for only when necessary.
I learn from the movie "Citizen Kane" never to pay attention to sentences that start with "I".

if you want to know why I need the computer on all the time: tough luck, it's none of you business.

I reported most of these posts as abuse because they are not about Pianoteq - I did that several times before but Modartt doesn't seem to mind.

I, I, I, I, I, I guess that whole post must be an April fools then?!!

Have a good weekend. Try not to wind yourself up too much.

I don't understand your position:
first you call me an inconsiderate planet destroyer in front of 6113 people - this could be liable
second you say there is no victim
third you call me a liar
fourth you laugh about it
fifth you again try to tell me how to conduct my life

please have more consideration for people you don't know.

Antonio,

I think (as someone else said, pretty hard to communicate with written words, so I might be wrong) that he has been kidding all the way from the first post about "the planet", and he was amused with you taking offense.

Even if he was serious (in which case you are right that what you do it's not his or everyone else's business), I mean, it's just a comment: say (as you correctly have) "it's not your business" and move on to the most interesting part of the conversation :-)
By the way, unless you have a beast of a computer, power consumption is pretty minimal compared to (say) A/C, heating, kitchen stove and other appliances which typically burn at least 10x more power (much more for A/C and heating)

That said, thanks for reporting the problem and the workaround. I too use Linux and I might have had to bang my head on the keyboard with it (which I haven't only because my controller is not working at the moment so I am not using Pianoteq for now). So thanks!

Antonio,
I'm going to try and cut you some slack whilst you continue to attack me because I imagine English is not your primary language.

Remember your own citizen Kane comment.
Well you started multiple sentences with I in the same post!
Hence I thought you were actually joking about being angry. An April fools prank.

I have not called you a liar anywhere.

You really need to calm down. There you go, that is me giving a stranger advice.

Now take your own advice about being considerate about strangers.

Oohhh!  I missed the fun!  It fizzled out before the hypersonic eco friendly (because they destroy everything that isn't) missiles were set loose. . .

I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order

As long as they use organic salted bombs King Charles shouldn't have any complaints.

Yes it got very odd that one!
8.08 got the MIDI recording function back that's the main thing.
