Can someone help me to fix this scenario please.

I have:

1. Standalone Pianoteq instrument open on my MAC desktop.
2. Connected to my Arturia keystep controller.
3. Protools open with MIDI track.

What I want is to have the midi notes played back.

Now, midi notes play and are inputted in protools, but the notes not played back, although the midi meter in protools is moving.

Note: (no midi interface, the Arturia controller is connected via it's usb cable directly into my MAC, although I have another MIDI cable with out/in as well)

I tried to connect devices in my MAC Audio midi setup, but if any of you knows how to connect properly in case the problem is here, would be appreciated. And Finally how to setup the midi options in protools I/O midi channel.

I'm am not familiar with ProTools. Is there a reason you have Pianoteq opened in standalone instead of in your DAW?

Hi Bvassallo,
Have you ever had the audio working in Pro tools yet?

The standalone probably has exclusive rights to the audio device so playback won't work in the DAW simultaneously. Both your DAW and Pianoteq work best in exclusive modes (where they hog the audio for themselves).
If the audio is set up correctly in your DAW you should get sound with the MIDI if you open up Protools without opening up Pianoteq (or other exclusive audio Hogging program) first.

I am also puzzled why you have the standalone open rather than the plugin version?
Have you unticked the AAX version during installation?

Hopefully one on two of the Pro tools users will help you. Other than that I'm sure there are youtube channels that will also help.
Perhaps for some reason Pianoteq isn't showing up in your Protools as an aax version?

Thanks all for your interest the same as with some help I found the solution.

My current workflow is to have the standalone on my mac desktop instead of loading it in my DAW, perhaps this way I help the cpu as well.
Also maybe, just maybe, the sound sounds more full in standalone.
And use my DAW, as a midi recorder and then commit back as audio, on an audio channel.

Also using my instruments as standalone, can be for me like using an external hardrware synth, than everything in the DAW.

You are probably just foolng yourself with different gain structure.

The sound should be 100% identical in your DAW. You can easily fool the ear by setting the output levels differently.
The functionality is effectively 100% identical too as you record the MIDI files in the DAW instead.

It's not as if we are talking about extra layers of audio processing. You aren't removing a layer of processing by running it in the standalone.

Thanks key for your view on things. Interesting and encouraging how you explained things. For now, I am working this way to see if it is inspiring and what feels best.
From time to time I like to experiment to ignite again the inspiration in my studio.
