Topic: Au Privave (Pianoteq)

here's a solo performance of one of Charlie Parker's great tunes, Au Privave.  this is definitely not the way the tune is usually done.  in fact the intro is so long that someone could argue that it's not the tune at all.  but it is in there, it just takes a while to get to it.  i hope it's not too heretical.

Hi budo,

I don’t know how this tune is usually done, and it may be a good thing. I’m only interested in how you play it

Long intro yes, but that just made me listen more intensively, where is the tune? I lost it several times and found it some places, yes it’s there, nice.

And your improvisation. Endless creativity and delicacy! Of all your recordings, to me, this is 100%  improvisation! Although I got lost several times and came back some places, it is so great! I admire your way of playing that always sound so fresh every time. If some people don’t get it, but I have to say, an improvisation can’t get better than this !!!!!
Awesome!

Best wishes,

Stig

Hi Budo,

I don't mind where the tune is hidden by there, and if it's heretical I love hereticality !
I just can say thank you for these 9'47 of happyness !
Great pinanistic skills and superb piano sound !

thank you so much for your generous praise!  it really means a lot to me.

here's a more "traditional" way to do this tune, by Fred Hersch (top-shelf piano player).  i have to put traditional in quotes because there's a lot of fun and wacky stuff he's doing, but at least the tempo and feel are more in line with what most people expect.  and no one has to wait 2min to hear the theme
