Topic: First impressions with Pianoteq 8 update

Hi,

I've owned Pianoteq since V5 and have always been impressed with what Modartt has been able to achieve with such a small file size using purely modelling. I have really liked how playable Pianoteq has been but I have always preferred using larger sample libraries for realism in final production releases.
Now on to Pianoteq 8. I am extremely impressed with the revoiced Steinways and think Modartt has made another significant step forward with this software. In my opinion the sound is getting a lot closer to a real piano and when paired with it's wonderful feel and playability I find myself not wanting to stop playing which is a very good sign for me! Since V8, I've started using Pianoteq in my final productions instead of my large (200gb+) sample libraries as I think it sounds more alive than these.
I personally feel Pianoteq is now on a par with some of the very best sample libraries and in some ways is an improvement but there is still room for improvement. Here are some of the things that I've found so far :-

-1: There are a few slightly odd and metallic sounding notes in the top third of the keyboard starting around Eb5 with D6 possibly being the worst. This stands the most on the Steinway B.
-2: There are a few nasal sounding notes in the low mids with D4 and G3 being amongst the most obvious
-3: I would love to have a little more options for the tone of the pedal noise like in NI Noire such as rumble, damper and strings.
-4: I would also love to have a Fazioli and Yamaha CFX added at some point.
-5: The new guitar actually sounds really good but I would have preferred this to have been released as an entirely separate product called Guitarteq. I would much prefer Pianoteq to solely focus on improving the pianos and adding new ones.

My favorite of the current acoustic pianos are the Steinways. I also like the other pianos but I think the Steinways are a step up from those.

I can't wait to see how Pianoteq keeps developing and improving as it is already starting to replace some very large sample libraries in my work and if the sound of the pianos keeps on improving I can't imagine needing a piano library again!

Point 5 has been addressed.  Where would you draw the line?  Harpsichordteq?  Celesteteq?  Xyloteq?  Harpteq?  Marimbateq?  That would be a lot of purchases and engines to install.

Overall I agree with a lot of this, but I've really enjoyed the guitar, and I partially purchased the studio bundle because it seemed like they were branching out enough to justify the cost. They also already had articulations modeled (at least in v7) for pinch harmonics, gliss, buff stop, etc. that apply nicely to the guitar model.
