This is a borning video (just under 5 mins - yawn) of me trying to find a better microphone placement for the JB Streicher to avoid dead notes and overly ringing ones.

It's done by ear as I don't know how the virtual piano is placed in the virtual arena.

I found by switching off compensation subtle movements were needed to get a better sound before adding any effects such as reverb.

Does Modartt set these mics according to their mathematical model in the optimum position? Or is it done by ear - as I have done???

Yes, I'd like to know if there's a formula for setting the mics. I've given up trying to do my own mic settings for recordings because I can never get them as well balanced as the Modartt settings. I can get them "sort of OK", but the fine adjustments always elude me.
