Topic: Velocity Curve for Harpsichord

Global Velocity = [25, 25, 127; 0, 25, 127]

This is a note-on velocity curve I use to prevent unwanted notes sounding, these usually occur when I am using tied notes (ligatures), or wide spacing of notes, resulting in a loud note due to the harpsichords lack of dynamics.

This is a first attempt curve, it might require some alteration, but using this curve on a 'recently played' in Pianoteq, eliminated the unwanted notes compared to a standard curve. I also use a similar, but less drastic curve in the Pianoteq piano presets, just enough to prevent double triggering.

Sorry in advance if this has been covered in previous posts.

Global Note-Off Velocity = [0, 127; 21, 127]

This is a note-off curve to use with the note-on curve in my original post. Again, this is a rough idea, but probably the one I will use unaltered unless I have good reason to change it.

The note-off curve here is for Pianoteq players with a keyboard with the note-off feature, Kawai VPC1 for example. For a keyboard without this feature, raising or lowering the horizontal line in the note-off window in Pianoteq with change the release time.

EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the 'Keyboard Velocity Curves', forgot about this.

Re: Velocity Curve for Harpsichord

Some harpsichords actually have slightly different dynamics/velocities (while the string is plucked instead of struck there are minor timbre differences that vary based on the general speed and strength with which the key is pressed), but in practice, the dynamic range difference is only a handful of dBs.  So you can experiment with a stepped curve dividing the velocity range into thirds with steps around five to ten percent between each change.  Also, my experience with harpsichords is that they have an insanely loud key release sound, so in PTQ presets, I often input values in excess of 15dB for the Key Release Noise setting.
