I proudly present the Ptq Vibraphone "Bethena, A Concert Waltz”

The work has been described as "an enchantingly beautiful piece that is among the greatest of Ragtime Waltzes ”a masterpiece" and "Joplin's finest waltz”.

The Vibraphone gets a little help from Organteq with some Oom-pah accompaniment - simulates trumpet, horn and euphonium (I love to experiment with Modartt instruments together).

Oom-pah is an, as I say, a”nice” onomatopoeic term describing the rhythmical sound of deep brass instruments (Organteq here  in combination with the response of other instruments, a form of background ostinato.

I have played Bach, but this was for some reason very difficul for me, so, sorry for some mistakes…. but I have a hook on my little finger and it gives sometimes problem when playing.

Anyway now I’m a Vibraphoneteqenthusiast too.

There was no edit button so I reply to myself.
I forgot the most important information -  Why did Joplin write this piece?

In September 1904, Freddie, his wife, died. Only married 10 short weeks, Joplin was devastated. In his grief, Joplin wrote "Bethena"(1905).
Listening to this, you'll hear the grief but also endearment. Ragtime in its nature is not sad. The ability for Joplin to take such an upbeat genre and still convey sorrow is  remarkable. Maybe Bethena was a nickname for Freddie - we’ll never know.

Best wishes,

Stig

Something dreamy with this orchestration.
