Allegro deciso (Twelve Miniatures, No. 3)

Henry Marcellus Higgs (1854-1929) was the son of Marcellus Higgs (1827-1897) and Clara Tomlin. His father, also an organist, published no organ music.

H. M. Higgs worked with several music publishers and published a fairly large output of organ music. "Allegro deciso" is in the key of a stormy G minor, and written in 2/4 time. It is  sort of a cross between a baroque fantasia and Mendelsohnian-style toccata.

Despite being less than a minute in length, it is not without its technical difficulties, as the parallel sixths played with one hand require good control and brilliance. It's just a "little piece," but it's a very exciting one! Very robust little piece, but - too short (as my friend has said it).
The tempo is quite quick, even breathless, but in a very pleasing way. The flow is continuous.

I have the sheets to all the Twelve Miniatures/pieces, so I will check which miniature could be the next interesting one to record     Stay tuned.

Stig,

What an exciting work to hear for the first time!

Thank you for introducing a composer I don't know well.

Playing is great. You make it all seem so easy!

Best wishes,
Robert
