Topic: How to transfer presets to newer version of PT?

Hi!

I started a project using PT 5 a while ago.
Now I need to update to use PT 6.

Is there any way to transfer my saved preset files?

I am on macOS and Logic X, in case that matters.

Thanks!

If you've made presets in pianoteq 5 they will work in pianoteq 6 and 7; at the time of writing the published version is version 7.5.

When you install version 7 you can still be using your old version for old projects.

Ahhh, ok I solved my problem but with your answer I now notice I should have been more detailed on stating my actual scenario.
I did not do this, as I jumped to conclusions already, while stating my question

all this is for mac:
- so what I learned (and your answer backs this) is that all versions of PT share one folder to store the presets.
- multiple versions of PT can be run in parallel
- each version reads the presets they are capable of (i.e. presets are downwards kompatible, but no upwards)
all this is awesome!

what I missed to state is that I had to transfer presets between 2 macs, while the newer only has PT 6 but not PT 5.

I made the presets work on the new mac by just copying
/Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Modartt/Pianoteq/Presets
from the old to the new mac

I also grabbed the midi history from that Pianoteq folder

Back to music now!

Not sure you've got it completely yet.

Suffice to say if you look at the FXP folder there is lots of older presets that will technically work in newer versions. Where you could run into problems would be running ancient presets for packs that are no longer available. Or running presets designed for older versions which were sufficiently tonally so different that the presets now sound poor - hence better to run older versions of Pianoteq along with current version.

Also it should go without saying morphed and layered presets do need version 7, but I imagine would work in version 8, 9 10 and beyond..

You can of course load up old presets and adjust them for the tonal changes as the engine progresses.
