Topic: Choice of 2 Pianos for RocknRoll and romatic piano

hy folks,
i am a Beginner in Piano (1 year learn by myself), have a vmk188 plus masterkeyboard und search for 2 Instruments to start with now.
I used the build in pianos from NI Kontakt Start, but dont like them anymore in comparison with the samples here.
I have the Problem, that in my current level i dont hear much differents in the instruments- so by now the choice won't mater .
But i won't found me dissapointed in a year by now, to not have choosen another set.
So i would apreciate a  recommendation by my piano likes.
its tofold:
a) Lessons from Rockpiano 1+2, jazz parnass and some boogie woogie sheets to learn. --> i like the fast and loud rock'nRoll stuff
b) romantic piano like Einaudi, Yiruma, Scores like Timelaps, CloudAtlas etc. --> all the beginner-friendly beautiful pieces

So the to instruments of the Stage-Produkt should best match for RockRoll/Boogie on the other hand and chillout/romantic pieces on the other.

e.g Rockpiano + Steinway, or upright + blüthner, ..?

thx for your opinion
Jens

Re: Choice of 2 Pianos for RocknRoll and romatic piano

Well, I think any 2 instruments from your shortlist would be a solid choice. Steinway D or B? It really depends on your preference, but with the D pack you effectively get 2 instruments (Hamburg and New York). All the pianos are pretty versatile - remember that you have multiple presets for each of them. For me, the absolute best all-rounders are Steinway B and Blüthner - but there's no reason why you can't play both pop and classical styles on any of the pianos. Play with the demos a bit longer before making your choice. I take it you have installed the demo version of Pianoteq? It really is the best way to evaluate the instuments.

Re: Choice of 2 Pianos for RocknRoll and romatic piano

Thank you,
and yes i play around with the demo version.
The differences in the presets are so big, i consider even to purchase a complete other instrument as second, e.g. an e-piano set.
still don't have a clue which of them i like most . i found to like the pianos more, where i liked the demos more .

What do you think about the K2 - for it's not having a real world counterpart? could be both, dis- and advantage.

Has the YC5 really an advantage for Rocky Stuff over Steinway & Co, just for its name?

By now i would combine Steinway D with the E-piano suite (for experimenting).

Steinway: For the real Pianos one prefer B over D, cause D would be oversized (even accoustical) in an home environment.
Thue to i play masterkeyboard with headphones, i can beam me more or less in every environment. is the Model D still to concert hall like? for my unexperienced ears it sound very powerful and fat, and i like it.

ok maybe the whole thinking is to petty for my level, but for 130€ i can think about it 2 or 3 nights

best regards

Re: Choice of 2 Pianos for RocknRoll and romatic piano

The choice can indeed seem overwhelming! You're quite correct about the Steinway D, it is a concert-sized instrument, but then so are most of the other pianos (except Steinway B, K2 and YC5). But even on the concert grands you do have presets which will give you a more intimate sound. K2 is sort of a 'fantasy piano', created specially for Pianoteq - but don't worry about that, if you like the sound of it and the way it plays, it might be a good choice for you. YC5 is marketed as a 'rock piano', but it can be used for classical styles as well, if you like it. The electric pianos are good, but they'll take you into a rather different sound-world.
So, take your time, test your repertoire on a variety of pianos and presets, and trust your instincts. Happy demo-ing!

Re: Choice of 2 Pianos for RocknRoll and romatic piano

Yes, give yourself  time with the demo!!!

...l ended up with the studio bundle! (and also NI and VSL=). moods are changing and I am switching between pianos everyday=) but VSL was at the moment the worst decision. The NI I don't regret and sometimes I like to go back to them...

Today I'm playing with the U4 which I overlooked at first BUT now i like it very much (the player closed preset even says: made for your daily practicing or so=)

don't forget: steinway D and petrof equals 4 pianos not only 2! The hamburg I really enjoy. The B i loved in the beginning but now I find it a bit to "candy" if that makes sense.

haha.. good luck! and don't forget: "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"
