Topic: Maigret Visits Chopin

This is just a one minute musical doodle on the theme for the closing credits of the UK Maigret series from the early 1990s as I remember it all these years later with a touch of Chopin woven in.

The piano is a morph of the 1922 Erard, the 1926 Pleyel, and the 1899 Bechstein. I have no skills at mastering a recording so my recording doesn't sound nearly as well as so many on the forum. But I hope it's still enjoyable.

My best to all.

Re: Maigret Visits Chopin

Robert, not a doodle at all. It’s very well done with the touch of Chopin woven in. Enjoyable!
And nice interesting sound. If you would not have said it is morphing, I would have thought it is a good, a bit modified, Pianoteq sound.

Actually, had to listen several times, and it is  beautifully played - in my opinion you are so expressive and it’s like you connect with every note and the nice changing tempo. Unfortunately it's just too short. But I can listen to it in a loop   Thank you Robert!

So it is my turn to say, Can’t wait to hear what you do next!

Warm wishes,

Stig,

Thank you for your kind remarks. You're most generous.

So pleased you enjoyed it and the sound of the 3 pianos morphed. I like morphing the Erard and Pleyel together as well. You might enjoy playing around with morphing.

Thanks again. You're much appreciated!

Warm regards,
Robert

Thank you, Budo! You're most kind.

If anyone is wondering, I used the Close Mic for all 3 pianos with the Bechstein at 20, the Pleyel at 20, and the Erard at 60. The pianos are tuned at A 432.

Best regards,
Robert

Nice "transition". And it sounds very good to me, too !

Re: Maigret Visits Chopin

Yes, I agree with all the comments, it sounds splendid. I like the piano blend very much, lovely vintage sound - perhaps you should upload it to fxp corner for people who may have missed this post and your 'recipe'.

Thank you! Pleased you enjoyed it, I can only monitor through headphones so I never know what my audio sounds like on other systems . Appreciate the feedback and compliment!

My best,
Robert

How kind of you, Dazric, to say. Thank you so much. I like a vintage sound, too.

I just uploaded the fxp with a few minor tweaks. Hope I did it right. Posted an mp3 of Grieg himself playing Butterfly recorded on piano roll in 1907. The MIDI format of the piano roll I found at the Stanford University Piano Roll Archive, a treasure trove of MIDI files of many great pianists who made piano rolls. MIDI was rendered with the Erard morphed fxp just posted.

Hope you like it.

Best regards,
Robert

Re: Maigret Visits Chopin

Really enjoyed this Robert.

Fine sound I'd say!

It does have a 'nicely restored or re-mastered vintage recording' flavor which works so well - without having to resort to lots of FX.. you have done well and embody this piano and probably have come to 'as good as it gets' in terms of exporting audio for this piano and repertoire.

Quite the magic.

All my best

Wow, Qexl!

Thank you. You're most kind. You've given my confidence quite the boost. That's much appreciated.

All recording and audio export I do within the Pianoteq interface. I have Audacity and Reaper but when I try to go "upmarket" things only get worse because I have no mastering skills. So I never use them.

So pleased you like the sound. I prefer older vintage pianos and it's good to know this comes across. Hope you're doing well these days.

All my best,
Robert
