Topic: Sustain Pedal is only 0 or 127

Hi,

My sustain pedal only outputs a value of 127, so I can't half-pedal or anything. How can I fix this? The pedal is plugged into my keyboard which then goes to my computer.

Keyboard: Alesis 88 Recital
Pedal: M-Gear SP-2

I couldn't figure out if my pedal just isn't capable of doing more than ON/OFF, and I can't find anything about it when looking at other pedals. If my pedal isn't capable of outputting different values, does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement?

You're doing nothing wrong. The pedal is just an on/off switch that's why you don't have intermediate values.

Neither the Alesis 88 Recital nor the M-Gear SP-2 support half pedaling.

Two things to consider here.

1) Whether the keyboard itself supports anything other than on/off switch sustain pedal MIDI.

2) whether the pedal itself supports anything other than on/off sustain.

The M-Audio piano style sustain pedal is still only an on off switch. Nonetheless mechanically it's still a significant improvement over the standard flat ones that come with entry level digital pianos and keyboards.
