Topic: Autumn Leaves (II) Pianoteq

another recording of this great standard from the book.  i shared a different recording a while back, but recently i recorded it again (that explains the (II) designation).  it's probably one of the all time most often played tunes (apparently "Autumn Leaves Backing Track" is a top search on youtube), but there's always something different to be done with it!  i hope people don't mind the repetition ... this is done with a modified NY Steinway D Jazz Recording.  i seem to be using that one a lot lately.

Re: Autumn Leaves (II) Pianoteq

Don’t worry about the repetition budo. As you say ”there's always something different to be done with it!” Yes! And I think on the contrary, it makes listening even more interesting.
Had to go back and listen to your first version 4.9 21 (which I liked much) but I like this one too. Can’t say which one is better, they are so different (which is really a good thing). You know, I’m listening carefully, and in a way, this version is more like your ”normal” style. You immediately feel that this is budo.  I love those some slower sections 5,24……and 7,20……..and your ”wild” playing about 7,43 - 8,15 - all these very wonderful. As of course the whole improvisation of the piece.

Anyway, in this version I think you are more inspired by the melody (which I think is good, because I can better follow your playing when one can feel the melody).
And then it was the chord progression out of Bach…..

Thank you budo! As I’m often saying - waiting for next one.

BTW, this your playing reminded me of an other good player, Terrance Shider, that improvise ex tempore much. He has many pieces on yt.
Listen to his version of Autumn leaves. A very special musician - a genius. "Terrance Shider was born with Autism and has a mild form of cerebral palsy. He is legally blind and plays entirely by ear".(Google)

Re: Autumn Leaves (II) Pianoteq

thank you for your comments, i really appreciate it.  i got a comment elsewhere that someone didn't understand how this was a recording of this tune, since the melody was only stated obliquely, so i'm really grateful that you were able to hear how the melody influenced the improv!

thanks also for sharing the link to Shider (i subscribed to his channel).  he's doing a lot of great things in his playing and i'm looking forward to hearing more.  i also love that he's recording in a piano store! that's really cool.
