This is an interesting piece.
I found it so............ Rock.
However, it came from the 18th Century!

Great find, and spirited performance.  Good job!

I agree, that whether because of its chord sequence, bass accompaniment, or rhythm structure, it does sound very 20th century rock-like.

Here's an antithesis:  Billy Joel composed music that sounds very 19th and 18th-century:

Thanks for the discovery, dklein !

Yes, this Gavotte is full of rocky energy.

Cool discovery! Yeah, very entrancing doppel-rhythm. FWIW, I alway found the gigue from Bach's e-minor partita pretty modern sounding, too.

Love it! Will have to check out the Bach gigue from the E minor partita, too. One of my favourite 'surprisingly modern' moments is the 'boogie woogie' variation in Beethoven's Diabelli Variations (can't remember which variation it is, don't have a score to hand).

I think you mean Sonata #32?

Ah yes, I love that as well, it's pretty jazzy - but I was thinking of Variation 16 in the Diabelli Variations.

Oh that... yeah, what a nightmare mvt. Wo. Boogie on meth maybe!

Any of y'all familiar with the nightmarish harpsichord music of Pancrace Royer?

Royer was one of those composers who were familiar to me in name only. Wow, what have I been missing? I can't help wondering if Rick Wakeman got some of his inspiration from Royer!
