Topic: Roland Fantom-08 and Pianoteq

So I've used Pianoteq in the past without issues with a Casio PX-150 keyboard. I haven't had a keyboard in awhile so I bought a Roland Fantom-08 and I can hear Pianoteq sounds when I click on a key in the GUI of Pianoteq with my mouse and I've followed Roland's instructions for activating midi (setting USB driver to Vendor) and I've tried connecting from the Computer USB to the computer which allows audio routing back and forth and I've used Roland's own computer USB to Midi Converter with the midi ends going into the midi ins and outs of the Roland Fantom.

I can get sound but I can absolutely not get any midi to register into my computer. Just posting here before I send a support message to Roland as well in case anyone else has a Roland Fantom-08 and has figured it out.

For anyone else I got it resolved by Roland's customer service:

The FANTOM-0 has 16 zones, and each zone can play an internal sound in the FANTOM-0 or can be set to external to trigger an external MIDI device, or for use with a DAW / VST instrument.

Hold the SHIFT button down and press the ON/OFF button above one of the 8 faders on the left side of the front panel so it is lit green. This sets this part to  EXTERNAL and it will now output MIDI when you play the keys. Here is an image of our FANTOM-0 and you can see we have set zone 8 to output MIDI (button is lit green), which zones 1, 2. and 3 are playing FANTOM-0 sounds (buttons are lit red):


In this setup, zone 8 is set to MIDI channel 8, so any notes that are being output from the FANTOM-0 are on MIDI channel 8 also, but you can certainly change the transmit channel for zone 8 in the Zone Edit screen if needed.

You need to have at least one zone set to external like this if you want to be able to trigger external MIDI devices or VST instruments in your computer. You can see more information on this type of setup on page 144 of the reference manual - here is a link:
