Topic: Two sweet jazz piano videos for the new year

Happy New Year. For simple listening pleasure that may help to heal wounds from a night of celebration:

Posted on PianoWorld--Ariel Pocock, eighteen years of age, playing "Darn That Dream""

And playing and singing "Body and Soul"

Nice sound, yes?

My, no responses at all? May I ask everyone's impression of the piano sound and how it was achieved? I think I hear compression, with perhaps a slow envelope so that the gain gently rises. Are there other effects on this sound? It seems to me "natural," although I suspect that this "natural" sound is instead carefully calculated.

Takes me back,  Made me think of Billie Holiday.
This kid is way out of step with her own generation.
God bless her!  There's hope.

Thank you Jake.

The piano sounds fine.

Strong deep wood bass, but with a middle range and trebble similar to many jazz pianos.

The mic would help with some equalizing or dynamic filter. The voice sounds like no effect at all was used.

Compressed a little more than I would like, but she's so good that I can ignore it. On a Baldwin, note:

There are some youtube videos of her singing more modern songs that I think she wrote. She's a jazz singer and player, to me. A serious singer and player.

No responses ? ? ... oh no ... I have been listening to her for a number of years now.  She is sitting on the shoulder of Bill Evans.

Great playing by a promising artist! But what happened to her? Her Web site and artist rep pages all vanished ... :-O

She appears to have been sidelined by the Covid epidemic. She speaks about it on her Facebook page. (And she offers lessons online.)

A shame that everything was shut down just as she starting to get known.
