Topic: Importing Pianoteq into Sibelius Ultimate

Hi, I want to use the Pianoteq sounds in Sibelius Ultimate for playback, can this be done? Importing a Sibelius midifile score into Pianoteq loses the fine detail... With thanks.

Hello Stefan,

I do not know this for certain, but I would suspect that all of the note-on velocities in Sibelius Ultimate are the same value, i.e., 64 or 80, etc.  Playing back the music of a notation program sounds, well, mechanical, computer-like, and emotionless.

The way to determine whether all of the note-on velocities of your Sibelius midifile score are the same, you may wish to export that file as a standard midi file (XXX.mid), and then import the .mid file into a midi sequencing program, and then go in and evaluate the note-on velocities.  Odds are strongly in favor of all of the note-on velocities being exactly the same default value.

Also, and I do not know this for certain, an imported midi file will probably have notes whose timings were quantized, such as a quarter note/crotchet = 120 beats per minute.  These bland timings are the death knell to any Pianoteq performance.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Joe
