Topic: Barefoot and other eccentricities

I was watching some videos about Alice Sara Ott, and found she always plays piano barefoot, even if playing for audiences.
She is a Road Runner of piano finger speed (like Valentina. L), and very precise too, but enjoys comfort for feet when using pedals.

Wonder if she would like to wear this: https://www.eta.co.uk/2017/06/19/nakefi...-barefoot/

Eccentricities are not rare among pianists. Glenn Gould hab his private chair for piano and many other unusual things like talk while playing or even recording.

Well, I would like to hear from you about your own eccentricities related to piano.

Thank you Gérard ! Amazing!  Felt like my fingers died when I played Bear Dance (Recordings), got cramps, spasms,  and my hook on the little finger got a little bigger for a while. Have to try this next time to avoid damaging my fingers Socks, yes! Very original way to play with socks, and nice to see your face. Try to put keyboard on the  floor next time and play with feet

Have said before, Gaston you make undoubtledly amazing pianoteq music and you are special, you really are and there is no individual on this Earth like you and I’m a big fan of yours and admire you. Thanks so much!

Best wishes from a cold Finland with much snow,

Stig

Actually, I did mention that Alice Sara Ott "thing" to the audience...when I had to take my own shoes off at a performance last fall (could not feel the Steinway's damper pedal with my stiff "going out" shoes). Rest assured, my socks stayed on (feet nowhere as pretty as ASO's, not to mention she is an infinitely better pianist)
Most importantly, of course,  Alice Sara Ott is a wonderful pianist and musician.

Re: Barefoot and other eccentricities

I only found about Alice Ott recently,  and very shortly after that I discovered she was diagnosted with Multiple Esclerosis (ME) 2 years ago.
Well, you know doctors... When they say someone with a given disease can have a normal life today thanks to new generation of drugs, it's nos really normal, and can be the end of a career. Despite that I want to be optmistic, for Alice Ott, since some people with ME keep mild symptoms for years and respond very well to treatment, while others don's have such luck.
In the case of a so prime pianist like Ott, the problem is that even a slight symptom can affect the quality of a performance to the point of became a problem.

The hope of people with ME is that scientists tested a new type of mRNA vaccine adapted to treat ME without reduce immuni system strength or create side effects. In mouse's they found the vaccine was able to make the immune system to became tolerant the the coating of neurons (myelin), which is attacked in people with ME and so affecting the function of neurons.

We should ask Organteq's users about play barefoot, since organ pedalboard require a lot more precision than piano pedals.
It would be a bit funny watch a organist playing barefoot a huge church organ, broadcasted worldwide.  :-)

Everything it's so politicized today...

Summary of my political views:

After the lunatics had took control of the asylum, they splited the asylum into eastern and western asylum.

Light piano eccentricities can be in the form of humor sense improvisation :

Or how to share the piano bench and get a shepard to sing together:

Glenn Gould use to play sitting on a child's chair and reaching up to the piano. As to the bare feet lady, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a calculated move on her part a là khatia buniatishvili's back, legs, décolletage etc...

Re: Barefoot and other eccentricities

Glenn Gould perhaps had Asperger Syndrome so I don't feel like lumping him together with the rest (consumed actors).

"And live to be the show and gaze o' the time."  (William Shakespeare)

Re: Barefoot and other eccentricities

Yes, a high chance he had Asperger. Despite that he appears to have emotions for music, like when he moves like desire to conduct the orchestra:

Look in 17:12

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H-t-d-qjBbM

His chair may had an emotional connection for him. But such position can be the reason he developed back pain to the point of use so much pain-killer, which can be responsible to health problems and perhaps shortned his life.

Look how steinway pianos wasn't polished shinny like jewery as today, but rather matte,. Even the keyboard look out of level. The sound it's also a little hard.

About Khatia Buniatishvili , the video posted it's ok to me, but Google says more.
