Pietro Alessandro Yon - Gesù bambino (Pianoteq)
Gesù bambino is an Italian Christmas carol composed by Pietro Yon in 1917.
Pietro Alessandro Yon (August 8, 1886 – November 22, 1943) was an Italian-born organist and composer who made his career in the United States.
On January 1, 1922 Yon was appointed 'Titular Organist' of the Vatican, a singular and unprecedented honor. The appointment put pressure on New York church authorities to promote Yon to a more-prestigious position.
Yon was also a composer, most famous for his Humoresque "L'organo primitivo"- Toccatina for Flute, for organ, and his Christmas piece Gesù bambino. He also wrote many works for organ, piano, and orchestra.
Gesù bambino is an Italian Christmas carol composed by Pietro Yon in 1917. The melody was used by Frederick H. Martens in his English language carol "When Blossoms Flowered 'mid the Snows".
I did not know this song. It's a beautiful Carol that I have not heard in Finland. But it is played a lot on Youtube. I listened to a recording by the composer Pietro A. Yon himself playing his Gesu Bambino. Recorded in 1923 on piano roll. Robert rendered the digitized piano roll to mp3. (Thank you so much, Robert, wonderful, it inspired me to learn and play this wonderful Carol that isn’t easy.)
Gesù bambino
Best wishes,
