Bach Prelude BWV 553 (part of it) and Surprise Samba, Haydn
The piece is revised, has been improved, ”modernized” as well, brought up to date, “a revised edition”…..
Oh, now it got a little unnecessarily complicated, a mistake, Oops! For French speaking I say oh là là!
”Surprise Samba” based on Haydn Symphony 94 ”Surprise”
Petrof Mistral Classical recording
Based on a theme by Joseph Haydn, Symphony 94, ”Surprise”, part two Andante (arr. Uwe Korn)
According to one account, Haydn had already given the downbeat to begin the movement when the gentle snores of a front-row patron piqued his sense of humour. He and his musicians forged ahead with the little theme until reaching its final chord, for which Haydn cued an immense fortissimo (loud tone), bringing the drowsy patron to his feet.
But, Haydn wanted to make a huge amount of excitement that people would love, they would roar cheer about it, he was up for audience engagement , he wanted people to cry out when things happened, he wanted his audience right in there with him in the action, this is what this piece , symphony 94, is all about, the paukenschlag (Crispin Woodhead, Chief executive, Youtube)
After Samba I play Haydn's surprise theme, Andante. The premiere took place at the Hanover Square Rooms in London on March 23, 1792
