Topic: Best digital distributor IMHO
Hi everyone, just wanted to share my thoughts on digital distribution.
I have use several distributors over the past few years. I started with DistroKid, which is a great company, but they do have drawbacks. Mainly how they handle cover song licensing. They charge $12 a year to clear your song, and while that might be reasonable if you are getting a ton of streams, most artists are going to loose money.
That's when I discovered Soundrop. (I am not getting paid in any way to promote Soundrop). They have been the easiest company I have worked with yet. Here is a quote from their website on pricing:
"We charge $9.99 per cover song to secure the required license, and then we keep 15% of the revenue you earn from digital music platforms. This means we only make money when you do; we’re a partner in your success today, tomorrow, forever."
You only pay $9.99 one time, for perpetual clearence.
This is by far the easiest, most cost effective way to release cover songs, or any song really. Violinist Daniel Jang uses them, and he releases a lot of covers.
Hope someone found this helpful!
