Topic: Joplin Weeping Willow rag - with Organteq

Scott Joplin,  Weeping Willow    Ragtime.   I think it's nice, unusual, to play rag time with a pipe organ

Very nice.  I like the "OOm-pah" bass.  Overall, it reminds me of a steam-driven calliope on a riverboat.

dklein,

It’s always so nice to read about your imagination,  describes the situation so well. I’m learning new things

A calliope is a musical instrument that produces sound by sending …..steam …..through large whistles......
…There is no way to vary tone or loudness. Musically, the only expression possible is the pitch, rhythm, and duration of the notes.
The steam calliope is also known as a steam organ...……a steam pipe organ, has been identified with steamboats since 1865….… It was once a signal to head for the river  -  A showboat was 'a comin’.

Well, thankfully I can happily change the tone and volume with Organteq.
So now I also have a Calliorganteqpe

Thank you very much,

Stig

Re: Joplin Weeping Willow rag - with Organteq

it is very interesting to hear ragtime on a pipe organ.  indeed it's very rare to hear any kind of jazz with a solid pulse performed on pipe organ, because the distance between the instrument and the performer and other latency makes it hard to play in time.   but somehow this works!  i also get the impression of a calliope, but whenever i've seen one it's either been in a museum or at the center of a old merry-go-round.

The Easy Winners is another great Joplin piece that has a similar feel to Weeping Willow in some ways, perhaps you would like it.

Oh no! It has been almost a year since budo commented here and I have not answered. I apologize. I am usually so careful to answer. This is a big mistake, sorry budo.

And my answer: I like your comment about organ and rag time. A calliope - yes. Now I can add to my list:

Pianoteqenthusiast, Organteqenthusiast, Harpteqenthusiast, Harpsichordteqenthusiast and experimenter   and   Calliorganteqpethusiast

I now try to find your suggestion  Easy Winners.

Thank you budo,

Best wishes,

Stig

Stig, wonderful playing! I like ragtime on the organ. Makes me think of sitting in a movie palace, watching a silent movie, while the organist plays!

Thanks!
