Topic: Maple Leaf Rag - My first ragtime (and last ? :)

This is my first try on ragtime ( what a jump, from Bach Toccata to ragtime…) and it became a bit short version. Because I had trouble all the time with the rhythm, the repeat (didn’t remember), Coda, D.S. Coda, wrong notes and so on…..had to play one page and one page, the sheets came in the wrong order, couldn’t play from beginning to end….oh, what a night….
I think I do not succeed with this style music -  Bach goes much better for some reason. Why?

But, I tried to adapt the sound to the piece, and for this, U4 Honky Tonk was good. I love the ”antique” sound.

Anyway, I wanted to share this just to show how strange it is, that I can play Bach Toccata but not ragtime properly, correctly, satisfactorily.. Why? Maybe I’m too old…..

Someone said, particularly this one, is very tricky, and if I can play this one, I can play all the other ragtimes…. no, I think I’m going back to Organteq and Bach Toccata and Charles-Marie Widor Toccata
After listening….uh…. maybe not so really bad in any case….let’s say it’s just  an old pianoteqenthusiast playing……
Thanks.

Thanks! It means a lot. I was working so hard with it.

i thought this was great.  really enjoyed it.  there are some other works by Scott Joplin, namely his "Concert Waltzes," that you might enjoy.  one of my first introductions to jazz was through ragtime, and i still really love it.

Thank you very much for your support, budo! I have now the score to Concert waltz  ”Bethena”, Joplin. I think it is an enchanting beautiful piece, a masterpiece. I’ll do all I can to try to get this to work for me. Thanks

Stig
