Topic: Dac for Beyerdynamic DT 1770

Hi, I took the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 headphones to work with FL studio and now I need an amplifier, https://staccatomusic.org/headphone-amp...under-200/ then I saw a kind of good Audioengine D1 Will it be enough for my headphones or will I need to look for something more expensive?

Re: Dac for Beyerdynamic DT 1770

I would recommend investing in a decent audio interface to be honest with you. For budget I would say Motu M2 or M4. New versions of the Audient range look pretty good. I own a Universal Audio Solo which is really good and really drives headphones even at a higher ohm. I own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT and they are 250ohm and it is has enough juice to push them.
Depends on what you are willing spend and what ohm your headphones are...

Re: Dac for Beyerdynamic DT 1770

Looking at the specs, these are very sensitive, so could be driven loudly even with a smartphone, or a laptop etc. Also, having a high impedance, means the output impedance of the headphone amp will probably not be a factor. IMHO the only reason to get an "amp" would be if it also has a DAC (such as an audio interface, as mentioned), *AND* you can actually hear an improvement.

I have this Audioengine D1. I quite like it, it looks good also, good quality, but if you read reviews of experts they all say it is overpriced. It is also a DAC and the sound that I get out of it is certainly better than what comes out my minicomputer with questionable soundcard. They advertise saying it drives a large range of headphones, but don't specify power output and again the experts say that it has trouble with very high impedance headphones. I am using Sennheizer HD 598 and it works fine but they have impedance of only 25 Ohms or so. There are a lot of things similar to this D1 and cheaper, or with more power, just look at the reviews out there. D1 needs the Asio4all driver as it has no dedicated driver, but that works fine, I did not find any difference in latency or so comparing with the supposedly superfast UAC Zoom2 audio interface (but I don't need an audio interface) that has a dedicated Asio driver but not so good headphone amp (experts say, I don't hear it really, it's different, but better/worse?).
