Topic: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

Would be nice to have a "thumbs up" or "like" button for posts. Often there are situations when you want to say something like, "thank you" or "great idea" or "congratulations" or "+1" but don't want to spam the thread with a reply. Such small button for all thread messages would be very useful IMHO.

+1   I love this forum, and I think ideas about things to make the forum even a better experience for all, are welcome. Thank you, AKM.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

+1 - kind of proves the point, I think!

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

Great! And I notice that the Recordings section now has Likes as well.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

I believe "likes" are fine, if we are mature enough to do not get into: "I have more likes than you..." or: You didn' thank/liked my posted so I will not like your post... sort of thing.

Some web forum go too far, like showing how many "likes/thanks" users have, showing in his account, or in a thread showing who thanked who. Deppending of the public, it can became some Black Mirror Syndrome.

Some pages allow people to be narcisic and to thank themselves. Is it possible in this Forum? I will do a test. I prefer that not to be possible.

Edited: I did the test and I was able to Liked myselfe. It's better to fix that.

It is fixed. It is no more allowed.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

Cool, great, thank you, did not really expected! Is it possible to make it visible via a mouse cursor hover who left the 'like'? I mean I'd like the person, say, whose post I liked to see it was me (and the others possibly). And vice versa I would like to see which forum members left the like under my posts, it's like seeing whose opinions are these.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

Sometimes vanity can be dangerous...
Information era don't necessarily means sincerity era or truth era.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLc2E4P87QE

It's a video from Youtube, but ont Youtube I see what it can do with many people, who can end like politicians in behavior and competition.

Also, I believe when someone is helpfull or nice with us we must give a direct thanks, even than just a very short sentence. If we start to count who likes us, or personaly thanks someone with just a fast mouse clic, we get the risk of start to loose something.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

I mean it is how it works for ages on many forums, it is good, it is comfortable. Say, on GearSluts forum. Look, say, N. Shirley made a post about his sustain ideas. So instead of me typing, hey, Nathan, cool ideal, I like it, it is just one button doing exactly the same, saving time for me and for the others. I really miss that these current new likes here on Pianoteq forum are not personal. It is really how I, personally, expect them to be and how I used to see them being around.

It have nothing to do with a Black Mirror popularity stuff. It is extremely practical and time saving. It is really just saying, hey, I'm down for this, call me in, done with one single click. It also works kind of like a vote. And, again, it is for the cases where one would not spam the forum with some extensive "yes" message, but [+] is totally fine.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

I see that the 'number of likes' has now disappeared from the forum list, but are only visible within each thread. Probably the best balance. My view is that Modartt forum members, as a whole, are sensible enough to use the feature responsibly.

Re: Forum feature request, [thumbs up] button.

Yes, we have a nice atmosphere in this forum, with many gentle behavior.
I saw  foruns that was a warfiled with many warlords trolls, haters, and moderators that didn't almost nothing against direct offenses of them. A hell...
Pianoteq Forum it's a idilic paradise in comparison

Maybe it's because music brings people closer.
Or like some say: Music can calm the beasts (the ones inside our human nature ).

Yes, this is a good thing to me. However, it is very weird working now. I can't leave any more "likes", the browser get me to the forum root when I do so.

I caution anyone at this forum!  Seek and assume some responsibility, if you’re going to remain vigilant and get off your laurels as this one (forum) now with its likes and dislikes, which were only just suggested, might become entropy even just as easily as the others might had, and, eroded effectively from forums into arenas, where bodies —as any Caesar did— come to watch only the spectacle of clashes, technically, no true art appreciation that is taught inside a middle school teacher’s class.

You remember from where you get a thumbs up or thumbs down signaling...
