Topic: Unresponsive GUI in PTQ 7 Pro

Hi,
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  When PTQ7 is running in my DAW (Cakewalk) the GUI works fine when a project is first opened.  After playing the project for a short time, certain elements of PTQ's GUI become unresponsive - I can't open or close edit windows, and for those windows that are open, their controls' value pop-ups persist and clutter up the screen.  Eventually every GUI element ceases to respond, the output level meter shows maxed out (even if there's no sound) and I have to close and reload the project to regain access to any controls.  PTQ still plays and sounds fine - I just can't change anything about it.
Reloading PTQ without closing the project does not help, and it doesn't seem to matter how many tracks or other plug-ins are in the project, the outcome is the same.
Thanks for reading.

Using Cakewalk 2020.11 Update 1, the latest version, and PTQ 7.05 the VST3 GUI froze and was unusable, but the audio was still available. Worse, with same project after a complete reload of Cakewalk, I experienced a crash due to an uncaught exception which I believe was an access violation: "code c0000005". I think I remember a the GUI being flaky with prior PTQ 7 versions, not sure about PTQ 6. I have the minidump for the crash, which I can't read, if a Modartt tech is interested?

Re: Unresponsive GUI in PTQ 7 Pro

Perhaps try Ver 7.1.0 ?  You never know your luck.

Already installed... The GUI issue is very occasional and sporadic, on the other hand the crash is most likely associated with PTQ 7 and not reproducible, so if someone from Modartt technical support could take a look at the minidump it might prove to be instructive...
Right now support is stressed out so, if the crash occurs again with PTQ 7.1.0 I'll submit a report and the dump!

Yes, please send us a crash report at https://www.modartt.com/support?direct=1 , a minidump may be very useful -- the most useful would be precise instructions to reproduce the issue (we have not succeeded at reproducing the gui slowdown or the crash)

Re: Unresponsive GUI in PTQ 7 Pro

I'm glad the GUI issue is not just happening to me!  Although not glad it's happening to anyone, obviously...
Interesting to note that Tez is also using Cakewalk. Since no-one else I know who has Pianoteq has had this problem, none of them use Cakewalk either, which leads me to wonder if it's specifically a Cakewalk gremlin.  I had a similar problem with various UVI sample libraries a while back, but an update to the UVI player eventually fixed it.

The GUI issue is not a biggy for me as it's a rare occurrence, and CbB as I'm sure you're aware is stellar with support and bug fixes. I'm fairly sure 90% of the time most crashes are due to a plugin, particularly when it's an access violation. For the project in question, the FXs were iZotope plugins which so far are solid, and the only VSTis are PTQ.  So far, no issues with Ver 7.1.0

Update: Boo Hoo, 7.1.0 GUI  glitch

the GUI issue

Good News Korky... I was able to consistently reproduce the GUI freeze and reported it to support and I quote "It seems to be an issue within the UI toolkit we are using, I have reported the issue".  So, hopefully tech will find a fix, and it's not a CbB gremlin. Keep your eyes peeled for a PTQ 7 update

Re: Unresponsive GUI in PTQ 7 Pro

We have updated v7.1.0 -- if you download it again and re-install it, the bug should be gone.

Once again many thanks

Thank you for this bug fix. I'm a little surprised by the fact that you don't increment the patch number (the third number) of the software version number after making this type of bug fixes. People should be able to see by checking the entire version number if they have the latest version or not. By distributing different versions with the same number that becomes impossible. People should not have to periodically check the change log to see if they need to re-install the version they already have. I know the changes are small, but isn't that precisely what the patch number is intended for?
