Topic: Image display of currently loaded piano (instrument)

Hi! First, after discovering Pianoteq 7 yesterday (and pressing the "buy" button only a few minutes after trying the demo... ;-) ), I must say I'm very impressed by the quality of this software: not only the sound, but the man/instrument connection, unlike usual VSTs... Genious piece of software!!

I think it only lacks ONE thing: when loading / playing a piano, it would be PERFECT to have the option to show a picture of the current instrument, integrated on the main page (and the promotional videos are full of such nice pictures). But maybe is there somewhere already an option? Seing the instrument (especialy oldies of the Kivir collection), even the grain of the wood, the little defaults etc is so inspiring!!

I agree with you. The appearance of the interface is the only small flaw I can find in pianoteq. And I always dream of a real full screen with visual access to favorites and yes, a beautiful image display of the piano I am playing.

Hi,
To a certain extend I agree, provided the program could remain a small as possible, memory footprint wise.
It's not a super glossy 3d render or anything like that but you can choose to view presets from the preset manager. At the bottom of the GUI there is a little window with a low/modest resolution picture of the model you are using, together with a description. If you go fullscreen you will see a slightly larger version of this.


I think it's probably not the glamorous showy graphics you were after though, but it might suffice. Certainly the description of the presets also helps to tell the story.

I think of Pianoteq as more academic, more matter of fact. Less razzmatazz, more substance, but with vastly less memory footprint. The antithesis of the Spectrasonics showbiz approach.

It's a lot prettier since version six onwards though. I can think of a great deal of much uglier GUIs. Pianoteq's GUI is excellent and efficient and scales to fit all kinds of resolutions. I like the very large setting on my display.

It's so memory efficient if it doubled in size for a few snazzy visually rendered pianos it would still have a  miniscule memory footprint compared to the competition.

Since there are tons of pianos already present, especially the historic ones, I would vote for some better psycho-visual aid to help the memory to better differentiate them. Also it could help to avoid some occasional mistakes like sometimes you choose Steinway while having the idea of choosing the Bechstein wondering it sound slightly different from what you expected.

It is possible to assign a preset to a midi controler. But without midi controler It would be a good thing if we could assign a preset loading to a keyboard shortcut. For exemple programing our favorite presets to F1, F2, F3 on the azerty keyboard .etc...
Another suggestion, when you go to options, instruments you have nice pictures of instruments brands. Why not a link in it and a direct access to the basic preset of this instrument when you clic on it.

About memory worries: It might be possible for the Pianoteq install program to include good photo's of the original pianos that, when it was run, installed them in a separate folder in the Modartt folder. When the program executable was run, only the photo of the defaut or most recent instrument would be loaded. Switching instruments would close that photo and open the one for the new instrument? In other words, the photo's would not be in the program's executable program at all, so there would only be a tiny hit on memory or resources. It would just call up one photo at a time. (But don't ask about what would happen with morphs and layers!) If there was too much of a memory hit, perhaps for people developing on linux systems for very small motherboards, there could be a command line command to turn off showing the photos.

To me, these photo's would be the most valuable if they replaced the images now on the mics pane. A zoomable (zoomible?) frontal and overhead photo could "replace," or actually just be pasted over, at scale, the current graphics?

Of course we are asking for this right after the release of the wonderful version 7! Modartt could create a model that allowed us to exactly copy the sound of any instrument, and we still might find new things to ask for!

1+ This would be very handy. It would be popular among people playing Pianoteq live, particularly. They could do an entire set easily, only touching one key to change instruments.

Don't care about the pictures, but memory usage is probably double that of version 6 on arm even without using morphing and layers. Hopefully, it is put to good use improving the sound quality.
